Pangkor Laut Resort Unveils Opera in Paradise 2024 Encore Harmonies Amidst Nature’s Splendour

Experience the enchantment of Opera in Paradise at Pangkor Laut Resort, a secluded island sanctuary, as it presents the second edition of this extraordinary event. Following the success of its debut in October 2023, this year’s Opera in Paradise is set to transport guests into a realm of unmatched beauty and artistic excellence.

Inspired by the legendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti, this event embodies his sentiment by blending the exquisite artistry of world-renowned performers with the breathtaking natural surroundings of the resort. With pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and ancient rainforests as the backdrop, guests will immerse themselves in the soul-stirring melodies of world-class opera.

Headlining the event is acclaimed Italian flutist Andrea Griminelli, whose illustrious 35-year career has earned him international recognition and numerous awards, including a Grammy and an Italian Knighthood. Returning as the Musical Director, Griminelli’s performance will pay tribute to Pavarotti’s historic concert on the island, promising to evoke both emotion and awe.

Joining Griminelli is a stellar lineup of award-winning performers, including:

Laura Wright, a renowned mezzo-soprano, is known for her performances at high-profile events worldwide, including for the late Queen Elizabeth II. Known for writing the anthem “Invincible” for The Invictus Games and has won BBC Chorister of the Year. She is currently working on her 7th album.

Cathy-Di Zhang, an award-winning soprano and Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, returned to Australia in 2020, debuting in roles such as Mimi in “La Bohème” with Opera Australia and Gilda in “Rigoletto” with Victorian Opera.

John Longmuir, a celebrated tenor from Edinburgh, Scotland, trained at the Australian Opera Studio and has won prestigious awards, including the Herald-Sun Aria and the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award. Known for his role in Berg’s “Wozzeck,” he has performed over 500 times for Opera Australia in various roles. Additionally, he served as a judge on Channel Seven’s “All Together Now.”

Set against the backdrop of Pangkor Laut Resort’s unique ethos of ‘One Island, One Resort,’ Opera in Paradise offers a weekend of luxury, culture, and culinary delights. Guests will experience world-class opera performances and exquisite dining, all within the pristine beauty of Pangkor Laut’s natural surroundings.
