Ireland’s noises of nature

If you think Ireland’s emerald green landscapes are amazing, just tune into the island’s natural soundscape.

Tourism Ireland has unveiled a new online film highlighting the wonderful wildlife and spectacular nature to be found right around Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland.

Titled ‘Noises of Nature’, the film features beautiful footage of the island’s wildlife – including stags at play, puffins feeding, whales splashing and swans in flight.

It aims to build anticipation for holidays on the island of Ireland later this summer. The message is that “it’s been a tad quiet recently, but these green lands are anything but asleep … and when the time is right, we look forward to having you with us”.

Siobhan McManamy, Tourism Ireland’s Director of Markets, said: “Our new online film is a fun way of shining a spotlight on our wonderful wildlife and spectacular nature. Tourism Ireland is now working hard to build anticipation for holidays here later this summer.

“As international travel begins to restart, we will be pulling out all the stops to promote Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland as a safe, welcoming and ‘must-see’ destination across the world. Our message is that we can’t wait to roll out the green carpet and welcome back our overseas visitors.”

Whether it’s the splash of a whale popping up to say hello off the coast of County Cork, the clash of antlers between rutting stags at Killarney National Park, or the soft bleats of a lamb in the rolling Sperrin Mountains, the island of Ireland is full of nature, life and sonic wonder.

With over 450 different species of bird calling the island of Ireland home, you can hear the likes of the sweet song of a whimbrel along the salt marshes of North Bull Island, whistle along with the sombre-faced guillemots on Rathlin Island and experience the gentle hoot of the whooper swan at East Coast Wetlands and Nature Reserve in County Wicklow.

Or get up close and personal to the screeches of the birds of prey at Eagles Flying, Ireland’s largest raptor and owl sanctuary in County Sligo. Listening to the eagles, falcons, hawks, vultures and the owls as they land right next to you will give you a whole new appreciation for these majestic birds.

In the silence of the valleys of places like Glenveagh National Park in County Donegal, the gorgeous Glens of Antrim or even in the middle of Dublin’s Phoenix Park you can hear and see it all for yourself.

The ‘Noises of Nature’ film is part of Tourism Ireland’s #FillYourHeartWithIreland (#FYHWI) social media campaign – which has been running since April 2020, to keep the island of Ireland front and centre in the minds of future visitors around the world.
