Bordered on three sides by sparkling blue seas, Türkiye has long been a paradise for water sports and sailing enthusiasts. At the center of this maritime culture is the Bosphorus Cup, the country’s longest-running sailing competition — and one of the few races in the world to unfold between two continents, Europe and Asia.
This September 18–21, 2025, İstanbul will once again host the 24th edition of the Bosphorus Cup, reaffirming its status as Türkiye’s premier regatta and an unmissable international event on the sailing calendar.
A Race Like No Other
For one spectacular day each year, the Bosphorus Strait transforms into a natural racecourse, with sails unfurling against İstanbul’s breathtaking skyline. Nearly 85 boats from around the globe — from sleek 25-foot racers to impressive 86-foot yachts — converge on this legendary waterway, normally restricted to commercial traffic, to test their skill on the only natural strait that divides continents.
Across eight competition categories, including International Rating Certificate (IRC), Offshore Racing Congress (ORC), and cruising classes, around 900 sailors representing 10 nations will compete. Nearly a million spectators gather along the shores to witness the drama of wind, water, and rivalry unfold in the heart of the city.
The main highlight arrives on September 20, when the full fleet takes to the mighty Bosphorus, creating one of the most dramatic and photogenic regattas in the world.

Beyond the Race: Festival Atmosphere in İstanbul
The Bosphorus Cup is not just about sailing — it’s a cultural celebration. Alongside the regatta, guests can enjoy vibrant parties on the shores of the strait, blending local hospitality with international flair.
This year, the event expands with a special artistic performance titled “Theatre of Winds.” Developed in collaboration with the Fine Arts Academy of İstanbul, six dancers will embody the city’s famous winds through costume and choreography, adding a creative twist to the maritime festivities.
With races running from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily, spectators and participants alike can expect a lively atmosphere filled with competition, celebration, and world-class sailing.
