One City, Three Distinctive Jodhpur Stays by RARE Destinations and Experiences

One size doesn’t fit all, and when it comes to hotels, it’s different strokes for different folks. I’ve always believed that, just like people, each hotel has its own distinct character. The key to crafting the perfect trip lies in matching a client’s personality and expectations with the right property. When it comes to these three hotels, you really can’t go wrong – they’re all exceptional in their own way. But how do you choose the perfect match for your client? Read on!

RAAS Jodhpur: Where History Meets Contemporary Chic

The views from this hotel are simply breathtaking! This thoughtfully restored 18th-century haveli blends traditional Rajasthani architecture with chic, contemporary elegance. That in itself makes it a talking point, but it is nestled not just in the heart of the old City, but right at the foot of the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, hence the spectacular views.  The clever design also ensures special touches, such as the fort and Baradari restaurant being reflected in the hotel’s pool, making the stay even more special.  Being in the heart of the old city means that you can simply walk out and explore the streets and markets. In the evening, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant serves Rajasthani and international cuisine against the breathtaking (it’s worthy of a second mention) backdrop of the illuminated fort. When it all gets a little much, try a rejuvenating spa treatment at the hotel’s wellness centre, which offers therapies inspired by ancient Indian traditions.

What has also made a tremendous difference to the central location in the Old City are the renovations to the Toor ji ka Jhalra stepwell, restoring this sadly neglected stepwell and transforming it into a social hub, gathering place, and fabulous photo spot!

Mihirgarh: Style Beyond the City

Created in the style of a small fort and located just an hour from the city, this hotel broke the mold when it opened—a modern mini-fortress with 360° views of the Thar Desert. Luxury is the order of the day; each of the spacious suites (there are just nine) has adjoining sitting rooms, a courtyard, and a terrace facing out to the surrounding countryside with either a plunge pool or a Jacuzzi.  The property’s infinity pool seems to merge with the desert, while the main dining area transforms from an airy summer retreat to a cozy winter haven.  It goes without saying that the food is a delight, combining family recipes with continental cuisine to suit all palates.

The brains and inspiration behind this magical, small hotel are the Rohet Family of Rohetgarh fame – the most memorable stay from my first trip to Rajasthan, mainly because they are exceedingly keen horsemen who boast some of the country’s finest Marwari horses. Indeed, the suites at Mihirgarh are named after their favourite steeds! If you’re an accomplished rider, then you should include a horse ride during your stay, even if it means booking an extra night. Marwaris are magical!

The Rohet House: Intimate Luxury with Artistic Soul

The newest jewel in Jodhpur’s hospitality crown, The Rohet House family, is at it again! This time a chic, sophisticated boutique stay, in town. High walls ensure complete privacy, enclosing a world of refined pleasures: a turquoise-tiled swimming pool, a fragrant garden, and an elegantly appointed lounge furnished with chic wicker pieces. What really catches your eye though are the stunning wall paintings throughout, most people talk about the showstopping peacock mural, but I loved the elephant mural in the dining room.  As we’ve come to expect from The House of Rohet, each of the six bedrooms is a treat – each telling its own story through different colours and designs and a hand-painted Krishna fresco. Think handwoven rugs, vibrant block-printed fabrics, and hand-dyed silk headboards.

The service adds that extra warmth that makes you feel right at home. Whether you’re lounging by the pool or relaxing in one of the common areas, there’s always a peaceful spot to unwind, despite its city-centre location.
