Four Seasons and leading European developer Gruppo Statuto have unveiled plans to reimagine Berlin’s landmark Hotel de Rome, marking the luxury brand’s return to the German capital after two decades. The transformed property—set to debut as Four Seasons Hotel Berlin in late 2027—will offer a new era of contemporary luxury in the heart of the city.
The hotel will undergo an extensive, multi-year renovation that maintains its historic façade while completely redefining its interiors. Once complete, the property will feature approximately 140 redesigned guest rooms and suites, as well as refreshed restaurants and bar concepts that blend timeless elegance with the creative energy that defines modern Berlin.
“We are delighted to be returning to Germany and reclaiming our place as the premier luxury hospitality experience in this key market,” says Alejandro Reynal, President and CEO of Four Seasons. “Berlin is a vital addition to our global portfolio, and we are pleased to expand our collaboration with Gruppo Statuto as we bring Four Seasons’ renowned service and experiences back to this remarkable destination.”
Originally constructed in the late 19th century as the headquarters of Dresdner Bank, the building began its hospitality chapter in 2006. Its prime location on Bebelplatz, in Berlin’s historic Mitte district, places future Four Seasons guests steps from St. Hedwig’s Cathedral and the Unter den Linden State Opera, with the Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt, and Museum Island—all UNESCO-listed cultural treasures—within an easy stroll.
Hotel de Rome will continue operating under its current name through 2026 before transitioning to the Four Seasons brand. Select amenities will remain available throughout the renovation period. Leading the transformation is Christian Poda, a Berlin native and Four Seasons veteran with more than 25 years of experience. Most recently Regional Vice President and General Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, Poda will return to his hometown to oversee the property’s evolution.
“Hotel de Rome has played an important role in Berlin’s hospitality landscape, and its next chapter as a Four Seasons hotel will elevate that legacy even further,” says Giuseppe Statuto, Owner of Gruppo Statuto. “After the success of our partnerships in Italy, we look forward to creating a new benchmark for luxury in Germany.”
A Design Vision Rooted in Heritage
The redesign of Four Seasons Hotel Berlin will be led by renowned architecture and interior design studio Humbert & Poyet, who will draw inspiration from the building’s original features while infusing modern sophistication throughout. Plans include three distinctive dining and lounge venues—among them a rooftop destination with sweeping views over the city skyline.
The hotel’s spa and fitness areas will occupy what was once the building’s jewel vault, creating a uniquely atmospheric retreat. More than 1,000 square metres (10,800 square feet) of transformed indoor and outdoor event space will accommodate everything from intimate gatherings to major celebrations.
Conveniently located less than an hour from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and just 15 minutes from Berlin Central Station, the new Four Seasons will offer seamless access to high-speed rail connections across Germany and to key European hubs including Vienna, Zurich, Prague, Warsaw, Budapest, and Amsterdam.
