Less than two years after opening its luxury destination The Cairndale in Dumfries has been named one of the top hotel spas in the UK.
It becomes the AA’s fourth accredited ‘UK Best Spa’ in Scotland along with the five star Gleneagles, the Old Course Hotel at St Andrews and Trump Turnberry.
Following an inspection, the hospitality group said it “features unparalleled luxury and wellness facilities, exemplifies excellence in spa services and sets the standard for outstanding wellness experiences. The rating signifies a commitment to exceptional quality, impeccable service and a holistic approach to rejuvenation.”
Opened in June 2024, the 86 bedroom hotel’s adults only spa features a thermal pool with airbeds and water features, Himalayan salt sauna, infrared sauna, aroma and herbal steam rooms, a ‘Brass Monkey’ ice bath, and a dedicated spa café as well as a wide range of treatments. It recently also added LED masks.
The AA added: “What sets these spas apart is their dedication to delivering transformative experiences that extend beyond traditional offerings. They are sanctuaries of serenity, providing an oasis where guests can escape the rigours of daily life.”

In April the Good Spa Guide, widely regarded as the definitive authority on industry standards in the UK, announced it had given Cairndale its highest status, the 5 Bubble Luxury Award, for a second successive year. Cairndale was the first spa in Scotland to receive the rating in 2025.
Cairndale Director Matthew Wallace Junior said the AA ‘Best Spa’ award was another major milestone in the hotel’s rapid rise to one of the UK’s leading wellness destinations.
“From Day One our ambition was to create something truly special – a spa which would stand alongside the very best This is further evidence that we have succeeded,” he commented. “Our focus remains firmly on delivering exceptional, personalised experiences in an environment that balances sophistication with great Scottish hospitality.”
