A Readers’ Choice Award puts the spotlight on the Wan Chai hotel’s distinctive interiors, rooftop suites, and Italian and Japanese dining.
In Hong Kong, a memorable hotel stay can be as much about the neighborhood outside as the room upstairs. At The Hari Hong Kong, the two come together on Lockhart Road in Wan Chai, where a 30-story hotel brings contemporary design to one of the city’s oldest and most eclectic districts.
The property has placed fourth among Hong Kong hotels in the UK edition of the Condé Nast Traveller 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards, earning a score of 97.87. Announced on October 6, the results reflect readers’ assessments of their travel experiences and add another international accolade to the hotel’s growing collection.
The recognition follows its third-place finish among hotels in Hong Kong and Macau in the US edition of the 2025 awards, previously covered in DRIFT’s report on The Hari Hong Kong’s Readers’ Choice debut.
British Design Meets a Hong Kong Address
Opened in December 2020, The Hari Hong Kong is the vision of Dr. Aron Harilela, chairman and CEO of Harilela Hotels. The second property in The Hari portfolio, following The Hari London, it draws on the Harilela family’s longstanding connection to Hong Kong.
British interior designer Tara Bernerd shaped the hotel’s interiors, giving the property a strong design identity across its accommodations and shared spaces. Its 210 guest rooms include three signature rooftop suites with terraces and views taking in Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, The Peak, and Victoria Harbour.
Those suites offer an elevated perspective on the city, while downstairs, The Lounge takes a more intimate approach. Books and artworks give the all-day sitting area the character of a place to linger between outings, with the surrounding neighborhood close at hand.
Italian Dining and Japanese Design
The hotel’s restaurants give guests two distinct directions for an evening in. Lucciola serves contemporary Italian cuisine, while Zoku focuses on contemporary Japanese dining beneath a ceiling of angled timber slats arranged in origami-like forms.
That sculptural detail helped catch Condé Nast Traveller’s attention. In its introduction to this year’s Asian winners, the publication highlighted The Hari Hong Kong’s origami-inspired appearance, giving design a place alongside the property’s strong reader score.
The Terrace adds an alfresco bar to the mix, offering an outdoor setting for drinks. Together with The Lounge, the restaurants and terrace give the hotel several different moods, from a quiet pause with a book to dinner beneath Zoku’s architectural ceiling.
A Growing International Presence
General manager Edward E. Snoeks credited the hotel’s team for the latest recognition, describing the consecutive UK and US awards as evidence of its growing international reputation.
“To receive such strong recognition from travellers on both sides of the Atlantic is a tremendous honour and a testament to our entire team’s genuine, heartfelt hospitality,” he said.
The award also arrives during a period of expansion for the brand. As covered in DRIFT’s look at The Hari hotels joining IHG’s Vignette Collection, the portfolio is strengthening its international connections while retaining the individual character of its properties.
The Hari Singapore is scheduled to open in early 2027 on Cavenagh Road, just off Orchard Road and near the heritage shophouses of Emerald Hill. It will become the brand’s third hotel, joining London and Hong Kong.
For travelers considering a Hong Kong city break, the latest award brings renewed attention to The Hari’s combination of distinctive interiors, varied dining, and a Wan Chai address. The rooftop views may provide the broad perspective, but the hotel’s appeal also lies in the smaller details: a timber ceiling, a collection of books, and a terrace above the city streets.
The Hari Hong Kong is located at 330 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai. Visit The Hari Hong Kong for hotel information.
