Scenic Group’s 40th anniversary comes with plenty for travelers to look forward to. The company is marking the milestone in October 2026 while preparing new river journeys in France and India, additional ships on the Mekong, and a growing yacht fleet whose itineraries will reach from the Mediterranean to Antarctica.
Founded in Australia in 1986, the group now brings together Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, Emerald Cruises & Tours, and Mayflower Cruises & Tours. Its anniversary announcement outlines an expansion program through 2028 and beyond, combining new destinations with more ways to explore established favorites.
For guests planning their next cruise, the developments offer several distinct possibilities: a journey through Normandy, a river-and-land itinerary in India, or a voyage aboard the forthcoming Scenic Ikon.
Emerald Lumi Brings a New Option to the Seine
France is a central part of Emerald’s next phase of river cruising. Emerald Lumi is scheduled to join the fleet in 2027, introducing the brand to the Seine with journeys from Paris through Normandy.
Purpose-built for the river, the ship is designed to reach Honfleur, giving guests access to the port town as part of their cruise. The route connects the capital with a region known for its artistic heritage, historic towns, and food traditions.
For travelers drawn to the culinary side of France, the new ship will also host a sailing with chefs Michael and Oscar Bonacini in August 2027. DRIFT’s coverage of that French culinary journey along the Seine offers a closer look at how food and regional culture will feature in the experience.
India Becomes a Larger Part of Scenic’s River Portfolio
Scenic’s expansion in India begins with Hooghly River journeys in 2027. Scenic Aura will carry up to 44 guests, pairing river cruising in West Bengal with longer land itineraries through India and Sri Lanka.
The published Golden Triangle and Luxury Lower Ganges River Cruise itinerary illustrates the possibilities. It combines Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur with time in Kolkata and a river journey taking in places such as Murshidabad, Kalna, and Chandernagore. Visits to artisan communities and historic sites bring different aspects of the region into the trip.
The combination allows travelers to connect some of India’s best-known landmarks with places encountered along the river. DRIFT’s guide to Scenic’s new Hooghly River cruises explores the program in more detail.
Scenic also plans to expand onto the Brahmaputra River, adding another region to its Indian portfolio as part of a longer-term development program.
Two More Scenic Ships for the Mekong
Southeast Asia is another focus of the anniversary announcement. Scenic says Scenic Spirit II and Scenic Spirit III are scheduled to launch on the Mekong River in 2028.
The additions will increase the company’s presence on a waterway already served by Scenic Spirit. They also extend the group’s investment in river travel beyond Europe, alongside its developing Indian itineraries.
For travelers considering Asia, the expansion points to a broader choice of river journeys across different countries and cultures. Detailed itineraries and departure schedules will determine the options available on each new ship.
Emerald Expands Its Yacht Fleet
On the ocean, Emerald Raiya is due to arrive in 2027, followed by Emerald Xara in 2028. The additions will support a wider range of yacht destinations, including the Seychelles.
Asia Pacific will also feature more prominently. Scenic Eclipse II is scheduled to return to the region in 2028, while Emerald Xara’s arrival will expand Emerald’s presence there.
The two brands offer travelers different ways to approach an ocean journey. Scenic’s Discovery Yachts combine luxury accommodations with expedition capabilities, while Emerald’s growing yacht program adds further choices for exploring coastlines and islands.
Scenic Ikon Looks Toward the Mediterranean and Antarctica
Scenic Ikon is scheduled to debut in the Mediterranean in April 2028, with Antarctica included in its inaugural season.
The forthcoming Discovery Yacht is designed for up to 270 guests in 135 suites. Published plans include 15 dining venues, eight bars and lounges, and a spa extending across two levels. Its first season, running from April 2028 to March 2029, will span destinations including the Mediterranean, the Aegean, the Falkland Islands, and the Chilean fjords.
That range makes Scenic Ikon a significant addition for travelers considering either a warm-weather voyage or a journey into polar regions.
Meanwhile, guests traveling with Scenic and Emerald during October 2026 are marking the anniversary through special dining, themed entertainment, and commemorative experiences. Four decades after its Australian beginnings, the group’s next phase will give returning guests—and first-time cruisers—new ships and waterways to consider.
Itineraries and fleet updates are available through Scenic and Emerald Cruises.
