PINK SANDS CLUB CANOUAN ISLAND, ST. VINCENT & THE GRENADINES

It isn’t every day that you get to experience how the other half lives. You know – wealthy beyond imagination with access to well… everything. In December, I had the pleasure of spending five days at Pink Sands Club, an exclusive hotel property located on the Caribbean island of Canouan in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. With villas that rent for as much as $20,000 per night, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it far exceeded anything I could have imagined.

In fact, it was pure pink perfection.

Pink Sands Club officially opened in October, 2016 and it is already garnering worldwide attention. It may be the breathtaking seclusion that grabs your heart the moment you set foot on Canouan Island. It might be the world-class service and authentically friendly staff that leaves a lasting impression. And it might be the hotel’s location, right on the pristine white sands of Godahl Beach that has you never wanting to leave. For me – it was all three.

With just 26 suites and 6 villas, Pink Sands Club is an exclusive paradise for those looking to get away from it all, without giving up anything at all.

The Pink Sands Club Spa, with nine hillside villas and two over-water palapas, offers the best in recuperative luxury. I indulged in a spa pedicure that came with the most amazing massage and foot treatment.

The award winning 18-hole championship golf course, designed by Jim Fazio, offers a challenging course with the longest par 3 in the world and the best views of the island. Sunset from the 13th tee is a must!

Guests are truly spoiled when it comes to dining at Pink Sands Club. Pre-beach breakfast at Lagoon Cafe, lunch at The Pool Bar or dressed up for dinner at Juliet, every culinary option is available. From the moment I arrived, every staff member knew my name, how I liked our eggs and how I took our coffee. It was impressive.

For anyone traveling with children, there is a spectacular Kids Club that will appeal to toddlers as well as teens. A lot of time, attention and money has gone into ensuring the little ones have a great vacation too.

This was fun! Each suite is assigned a dedicated golf cart to navigate the impressive and expansive grounds, estate, second beach club and golf club house.

The number of unspoiled islands that have not been taken over by tourism becomes fewer and fewer each year. Canouan Island is one of the rare ones. This island has it all – stunning white beaches, clear blue waters and lush forests. It is also home to one of the largest living coral reefs in the Caribbean, rife with colorful marine life, ideal for snorkeling and diving.  Directly to the south of Mustique Island, and a 35-minute flight from Barbados, the famous Tobago Cays Marine Park, where you can swim with sea turtles, is a short boat ride away. The weather on Canouan (pronounced Can-o-wan)is warm and sunny but with much less humidity that other tropical destinations.

The accommodation at Pink Sands Club is special. I stayed in the one bedroom suite. It was oceanfront, with unobstructed views of the white sands, turquoise waters, lush island mountains, and the ever-changing Caribbean skies with the most spectacular sunrises.

The suite featured a spa bathroom that is larger than most New York apartments. It came well equipped with a separate water closet, huge double marble vanity and immense soaker tub. Of course, toiletries and bath products were provided as well as Evian mineral water face mist, and other niceties. I am not known for my light packing abilities and I couldn’t fill up the three closets, valet and drawer space in the wardrobe area.

True to the name, there is a lot of pink in the suite and personally, I loved it. It was a deep tone of pink that felt right at home on Canouan Island. The large bedroom with king cloud-like bed and luxurious Pratesi Italian linens, was separated from the living room by a wall that featured a huge mirror, which magically turned into an embedded television. Then, at the touch of a button, the wall opened, offering magnificent ocean views directly from bed. There was a tablet that conveniently controlled everything in the suite.

My favorite part was the Italian inspired terrazza. Unlike dinky hotel balconies, this terrace is made for living. It opened wide to bring in the cool ocean breeze or closed tight to keep out the tropical mid-day heat. The restorative vistas had a healing effect on my highly stressed, over worked psyche.
