A Landmark Transformed: Rosemead House Now Open on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island’s newest luxury boutique hotel is now open, following the success of Janevca Kitchen & Lounge

Aragon Properties announces the grand opening of Rosemead House, a restored Edwardian estate located in Esquimalt’s Saxe Point, just minutes from Victoria’s Inner Harbour.  The 1906 property, once the famed Old English Inn, was designed by celebrated architect Samuel Maclure, whose portfolio includes Government House, the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, and the storied Hatley Castle. Rosemead House quietly welcomed its first guests this spring, offering a preview of what was to come. Today marks the full debut of the property, following a meticulous 10-year restoration and $25 million investment. The landmark has been transformed into a boutique hotel that blends history, design, and personalized service, redefining luxury hospitality on Vancouver Island.

Rosemead House features 28 individually styled guest rooms in the original manor and a newly constructed wing, with 13 long-stay suites coming later this year. Curated by Aragon’s in-house design team and owner Lenny Moy, the interiors showcase hundreds of hand-selected antiques sourced from more than 50 UK estate auctions, alongside rare furnishings and china from London’s famed Savoy and Dorchester hotels. Guests are welcomed by replica Buckingham Palace gates and can retreat to The Crown Mezzanine library, surrounded by art and heirlooms—including pieces once used in The Crown Netflix series.

“Rosemead House is a celebration of storytelling – of place, of heritage, and of the collections that fill each room,” says Lenny Moy, owner of Aragon Properties. “We set out to create an experience that feels like entering the pages of a well-travelled novel: immersive, refined, and truly without compare in British Columbia.”

At the heart of the property is Janevca Kitchen & Lounge, already a standout on Vancouver Island’s culinary map and recently named a finalist for Air Canada’s Best New Restaurant 2025. Led by Chef Andrea Alridge, Janevca has redefined wood-fired cuisine with a menu rooted in memory, heritage, and fire.

Rosemead House amenities include the Salt & Ivy Spa, a 3,800-square-foot sanctuary opening in two phases: a relaxation lounge and treatment rooms debut this fall, with additional wellness features to follow in 2026. Guests can also access 2,500 square feet of meeting and event space, as well as a 1,400-square-foot fitness centre featuring Peloton bikes, yoga space, free weights, and state-of-the-art equipment.

“From the moment guests arrive, our goal is to offer something unexpected-something personal,” says Uwe Walter, General Manager of Rosemead House. “We want each stay to feel like an unfolding story, rooted in hospitality, character, and curiosity. There is no place quite like Rosemead House, and we’re thrilled to welcome the world to experience it.”

Rooted in the past, yet designed for today’s discerning traveller, Rosemead House invites guests to discover a property where no two rooms – or experiences – are ever the same.
