Alaska’s Premier Heli-Ski Resort, Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, Announces 2025 Winter Season Opening Date

Longest operating heli skiing lodge in Alaska offers world-class winter adventures

Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, Alaska’s longest operating heli-skiing destination, today announced they will open for the 2025 winter season on February 8. The remote adventure lodge, located in the heart of the Tordrillo Mountain range, offers custom seven-day, seven-night winter experiences that include unparalleled alpine adventures with access to endless heli-ski and snowboarding terrain, world-class guides, and luxury accommodations for an unmatched Alaskan experience.

Surrounded by more than one million acres of diverse Alaskan skiing terrain and with 600 inches of snow each winter season, Tordrillo Mountain Lodge offers some of the most exciting heli-skiing and boarding in Alaska. Its remote location, deeply experienced guides, and luxuriously appointed, intimate lakeside lodge create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for every guest. The winter season runs through late April; and winter packages include seven days of custom, private heli-excursions curated to guests’ skill levels, from intermediate to expert.

Winter 2025

Heli-Skiing and Boarding

The endless terrain and colossal vertical feet surrounding Tordrillo Mountain Lodge, paired with regional expert guides and pilots make for a bucket-list heli-skiing experience. Runs top out at 7,500 feet and end at 2,000 feet with panoramic views of Denali and volcanic summits; and the area is also home to clearer skies and more flyable conditions than anywhere else in the state.

The lodge’s career guides bring decades of experience in heli-skiing and avalanche safety, and they scout new terrain almost daily. Many of the guides note that, when it comes to the ultimate heli-ski experience, February is the best time to visit.

“It is such a treat to not only never miss a sunrise or a sunset, but for them to last the entire morning and evening makes the lodge feel magical,” remarks expert guide, Brian Campbell, about visiting TML in February. “Where you really hit the jackpot is the combination of the snow quality and the light. Because the sun has no effect on the snow, we get to ski perfect, dry, deep powder in full sun all day. The combination of sun and powder is so fun and so rare in the skiing world, that even having one day of it in your entire life is easily going to be one of your all-time greatest experiences.”

Expert guide, Wes Wylie, goes on to note that February is his favorite time to ride in the Tordrillos, with, “bottomless cold blower powder; long mountain shadows; and sunny, south facing, epic runs that can’t be skied at any other time of the season.”

The Lodge

Tordrillo Mountain Lodge offers unmatched accommodations, setting the bar for luxury in the Alaskan wilderness. From the six-bedroom Main Lodge accommodating up to twelve guests, to the Judd Lake Lodge available for the winter season to host eight guests, every stay is appointed with a private helicopter and chef. Guests may also select a private, cozy cabin experience.

The resort’s private chef curates daily menus based on guest preferences – with meals like Alaskan halibut and wagyu beef “surf ’n’ turf,” daily, fresh-baked pastries, and gourmet breakfasts made-to-order – served family-style in the lodges’ cozy lakeview dining rooms. Hearty, warm options are also provided for on-mountain lunches and snacks. Guests can also enjoy an après ski experience at the resort’s full bar, accompanied by custom bites from the chef.

Downtime at the lodge is designed to be leisurely, adding to the luxury of a bespoke vacation. When not exploring the incredible terrain to be found surrounding the property, guests can participate in a full range of activities at the lodge – from a glass of wine in the custom hot tub with panoramic lake and mountain views to daily yoga and guided stretching; a riverside massage; snowshoeing; or Nordic skiing on the property. Other winter favorite activities include:

  • Front Row Seats to Northern Lights Views – Tordrillo Mountain Lodge rests adjacent to Judd Lake, which boasts panoramic mountain vistas in daylight and stunning opportunities to take in the Northern Lights at night. Alaska’s shorter days last through mid-April, affording longer nights and more opportunity to experience the aurora borealis while soaking in the lodge’s outdoor lake side hot tub; or catch the show from multiple decks or cozy rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Cold Plunge in Judd Lake – Guests can take part in a cold plunge in frozen Judd Lake, followed swiftly by a warm-up in the resort’s lakeside, wood-fired sauna.
  • 20 KM of Groomed Nordic Trails – When guests are not carving fresh tracks through the Tordrillo range, they can explore the property’s groomed trails via Nordic skiing, fat tire biking and snowshoeing. No need to bring extra equipment – the lodge is fully outfitted for these adventures.
  • Winter Padel Tennis Court – Designed to adapt to Alaska winters, the new padel tennis court at Tordrillo Mountain Lodge features special ground-level snow removal gates so the courts can stay playable when the weather is clear.

All winter packages are seven-day, seven-night stays and include seven days of heli adventures; safety equipment and ski/snowboard demos; gourmet meals; exclusive access to Judd Lake and all lodge-based activities; transportation from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport to Hotel Captain Cook (Anchorage); one double-occupancy room at Hotel Captain Cook the evening prior to Tordrillo Mountain Lodge reservation; and a round-trip flight between Anchorage and Tordrillo Mountain Lodge.
