According to recent research from Booking.com, 47% of travelers preferred to take many shorter trips this summer than one long one. There are numerous stunning natural swimming pools around the world for the water baby travelers that not only provide something unique for the social media feed, they’re are also a gorgeous way to cool off! With a mission to make it easier for everyone to experience the world, Booking.com has delved into its more than 28 million listings across 155,000 destinations across the world to select five of the best natural swimming spots around the world.

Barton Springs Pool in Austin, Texas

Fed by the Edwards Aquifer, Barton Springs is a set of four natural springs located near Barton Creek in Austin’s Zilker Park. Main Barton Spring is the largest and supplies water to Barton Springs Pool, a popular recreational destination in Austin, with waters that average between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20-22 Celsius) year-round, making it ideal for an impromptu plunge in any season. Not only is this pool surrounded by ample green space that’s ideal for relaxing, it’s also a protected reserve with measures in place to ensure the health of the plants and animals that call the area home, including the endangered Barton Springs Salamander.

As the opening hours of this pool range from 5am-10pm it’s easy to enjoy the natural atmosphere of the spring during various times of day. Cenote Samula in Yucatán, Mexico

Cenote Samula is a peaceful and picturesque underground pool that can be found in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It is one of the 3,000 or so underground cenotes scattered across this region of Mexico and also one of the prettiest. A cenote is a sort of natural sinkhole that forms when limestone caves collapse and then exposes the groundwater below. Cenote Samula has one single opening in the ceiling, allowing rays of sunlight to stream through, showing off the natural crystal blue color of the water below.

In order to participate in this survey, respondents had to be 18 years of age or older, had to have traveled at least once for business or leisure in the past 12 months, and planning to travel in 2022 and be either the primary decision maker or involved in the decision making of their travel. The survey was taken online and took place in January 2022.
