Bohemian design with Mexican vibes

Ser Casasandra will open in October after renovation to meet the needs of the modern travellers

Mexican resort Ser Casasandra, set on a colorful Holbox, will open on the 1st of October after remodelling. Public areas and the rooms of the original building will be redesigned in a rustic and sophisticated style, reflecting the natural environment of the island. Sandra Perez, visual artist and owner of the property says: “I wanted to create the perfect mix between art and Mexican cultures for authentic vibes, based on the colours that characterize Holbox, the island that welcomed me many years ago in a crucial moment of my life. The new look and feel emphasize the natural environment of the place and enhance the essence of this unique retreat and its collaborations with artists such as Jorge Pardo, Patricia Urquiola, Ernesto García Sánchez, among others to deliver a space wrapped in design art, with elements of the region and its traditions”.

In charge of the design were Duplas_Design who worked with a lighting studio to achieve a warm, relaxing, and elegant atmosphere in the public areas both indoor and outdoor. Armchairs, sofas, tables, and chairs of the main living room, at Esencia Restaurant and the pool area, take inspiration from Mexican fabric and colours. The use of types of wood native to the region such as Mahogany and Cedar for furnishing, and installations pieces soften the ambiance giving it a more modern and fresh look. The textiles integrated in the guests’ rooms will be hand loomed, an ancient technique kept alive by artisans in Mexico. In the original villa there will be a new layout to provide a more spacious set up and a private balcony with a direct ocean view. The Mojito Beach Club and bar – set right on the beach in front of the property – has new lounge areas to relax by the sea, a dedicated dining area for light bites during the day and laid-back dinners in the evening, a all-day bar for cocktails and sunset experiences with breath-taking ocean views.

From October guests will also have an opportunity to take experience the first Holistic Centre in Holbox. Ahal, which means “Awakening” in Maya will use the method of Synchrodynamics of the mind which was created by Juan Miguel Sánchez and Sandra herself, under the pseudonym Habiramy, her spiritual name. In addition to Yoga, meditations, and crystal ball courses, other group or individual holistic workshops will be available.

Holbox Island is a perfect destination to explore nature and to enjoy the outstanding beauty of the area: on the tour to Isla Pájaros, Isla Pasión and Yalahau Cenote travelers will be able to see over 150 species of birds, the whale shark, and the Bioluminescence, to try fishing, and snorkeling with turtles and dolphins and many other activities available on the site. Culture lovers will enjoy the ancient Yucatan ruins of Ek Balam and Chichen Itza archeological World Heritage Site which are perfect for a dedicated daily trip.
Home to local fishermen and adventure-seekers, Holbox is an oasis of a vibrant culture where Mayan traditions weave into everyday customs. The island forbids cars, high-rises, and formality. Sandy roads lead the way to a sun-drenched beach that seamlessly blends into an endless horizon. From the arrival, the island will invite travelers to relieve their everyday stress.
