Corgi Race Vilnius 2025 Brings World’s Cutest Athletes to Town

Short legs, big personalities, and a worldwide fan club that just can’t get enough — the quirkiest canine competition on the planet is making its grand return.

On August 23–24, more than 100 Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh corgis will race, bark, and parade their way through the fourth — and most internationally diverse — edition of Corgi Race Vilnius, turning Lithuania’s capital into a two-day celebration of speed, cuteness, and community spirit.

The weekend at a glance

After last year’s race captured over 300 million views around the globe, the 2025 edition is set to deliver even more charm, excitement, and surprises. Corgi contenders are traveling from across Europe and beyond, with a brand-new twist: live Portal connections will link Vilnius in real time to corgi enthusiasts in Ireland, Poland, the U.S., and other corners of the world.

Day One – Vingis Park:
Saturday’s action unfolds in the leafy expanse of Vingis Park, which transforms into the city’s most adorable sporting arena for up to 6,000 spectators. The main event? A 50-meter sprint course where over 100 corgis will face off in heats and finals. Between races, the “Mightiest Voice” barking showdown will let the loudest personalities shine, while the “Smartest Corgi” competition challenges pups to solve puzzles on the spot. The day wraps with the wildly popular costume contest, where creative outfits range from hilarious to downright jaw-dropping.

Day Two – Town Hall Square:
Sunday shifts the fun to Vilnius’ Town Hall Square for the World Corgi Meetup. Here, the city’s signature Portals — futuristic circular sculptures that livestream to other cities — will allow visitors to wave, laugh, and share the joy with corgi fans across the globe.

“Corgis may have short legs, but they’re world champions when it comes to winning hearts,” says event organizer Dovilė Bielousovaitė. “From the electrifying sprints to the whimsical costumes and international connections, Corgi Race Vilnius is about more than competition — it’s about friendship, fun, and a shared love for these incredible dogs.”

A canine-friendly city to explore

Vilnius is already known as a haven for dog lovers, with sprawling parks, riverside walking paths, and cafés that welcome four-legged guests. Just steps from the race venues, visitors can catch the Lithuanian National Museum’s exhibition History Wags the Tail at Istorijų namai (running April 30 – October 26). The show traces the enduring bond between humans and dogs through rare artifacts, interactive installations, and pet-friendly programs.

From backyard bet to global spectacle

What started in 2020 as a friendly race between two corgi owners eager to settle a “fastest paws” debate has grown into one of Vilnius’ signature summer events. The first gathering drew 40 corgis and 1,000 spectators. Today, it’s an international celebration that continues to bring laughter to the sidelines, joy to the winners’ circle, and a whole lot of wagging tails to the heart of Lithuania.
