Belize City is welcoming a new chapter in luxury hospitality as Fort George Belize officially joins Marriott’s Autograph Collection Hotels, bringing one of the city’s historic waterfront properties into a global portfolio of distinctive independent hotels.
Located in the historic Fort George neighborhood overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the hotel offers travelers an opportunity to experience a different side of Belize, one shaped by the country’s rich cultural heritage, coastal setting, and vibrant urban character.
The transformation celebrates the property’s longstanding connection to Belize City while introducing new accommodations, dining experiences, wellness facilities, and event spaces designed for today’s travelers.
A Historic Hotel with a Contemporary Caribbean Spirit
Fort George Belize has long been connected to the history and evolution of Belize City. Its latest transformation embraces a concept described as “Heritage in Motion,” bringing the property’s past into the present through contemporary design, locally inspired artwork, and immersive cultural experiences.
Rather than creating a conventional luxury hotel experience, Fort George aims to connect visitors with the destination itself.
Throughout the property, historical photographs documenting Belize City and its waterfront will be displayed alongside contemporary artwork inspired by Belize and the wider Caribbean. Selected pieces will feature QR-enabled storytelling, allowing guests to explore the history and cultural significance behind the artwork.
The approach reflects a growing interest among travelers in accommodations that offer more than a comfortable place to stay, creating opportunities to discover the people, traditions, and stories that define a destination.
New Sea View Tower Will Nearly Double Accommodations
One of the most significant developments at Fort George Belize is the upcoming opening of its Signature Sea View Tower, scheduled to debut later in fall 2026.
The addition will introduce 66 guestrooms and suites, increasing the hotel’s accommodation capacity from 64 to 130 rooms.
Designed by Arguelles Architects, the new tower draws inspiration from Belize’s coastal landscape, incorporating warm wood finishes, natural textures, expansive windows, and locally inspired artwork.
The accommodations will include King and Queen room configurations, along with two Signature Sea View Penthouses offering elevated views of Belize City and the Caribbean Sea.
The architectural approach is intended to complement the property’s historic waterfront setting while introducing a contemporary aesthetic that reflects the surrounding destination.
New Restaurants and Waterfront Dining Experiences
Food and beverage experiences will play an important role in the hotel’s transformation.
The existing restaurant, The Treehouse, will be joined by Marea, a new Mediterranean-inspired dining concept.
Another addition, The George, will introduce an all-day social space within the hotel’s expanded lobby.
Designed around the concept of “Coffee by Day, Cocktails by Night,” The George will transition from a specialty coffee destination during the day into a cocktail lounge in the evening.
Its mixology program will incorporate Belizean botanicals and locally inspired ingredients, providing another opportunity for guests to experience regional flavors.
Together, the dining venues will give visitors several options for relaxed meals, social gatherings, and evenings overlooking the Caribbean waterfront.
Wellness, Relaxation, and Waterfront Living
For travelers looking to balance sightseeing with relaxation, Fort George Belize offers several wellness and recreational amenities.
Existing facilities include K’IN Spa, BurnBox Gym, and the Courtyard Plunge Pool.
The expansion will introduce an additional waterfront swimming pool, creating a new space for guests to unwind while enjoying the hotel’s coastal surroundings. A retail boutique will also be added.
These amenities give Fort George the potential to appeal to travelers planning a longer stay in Belize City rather than simply passing through on their way to the country’s islands, beaches, or rainforest destinations.
An Expanding Destination for Weddings and Events
The hotel is also strengthening its appeal as a destination for meetings, corporate retreats, weddings, and special celebrations.
New event facilities will include Lubaantun, a boardroom with an adjoining outdoor deck, and The Canopy Terrace, a fourth-floor venue featuring panoramic views of Belize City and the Caribbean Sea.
Together, the new spaces will add approximately 4,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space.
They will complement the existing Lord Ashcroft Centre, which provides 6,815 square feet of flexible meeting facilities and can accommodate up to 500 guests.
With additional accommodations and event venues, Fort George Belize will be better equipped to welcome larger groups, incentive travel programs, and destination celebrations.
Discovering Belize Beyond the Beaches
Although Belize is widely celebrated for its tropical islands, turquoise waters, and world-class marine environments, Belize City offers visitors a different perspective on the country’s heritage and culture.
The Fort George neighborhood provides a waterfront setting from which travelers can begin exploring the city’s historic character and surrounding attractions.
The hotel’s location also makes it a potential base for discovering some of Belize’s best-known experiences, including the Belize Barrier Reef, ancient Maya archaeological sites, and rainforest adventures.
For visitors combining several destinations within Belize, a stay at Fort George offers an opportunity to spend time in the country’s largest city while enjoying the comforts of an upscale waterfront hotel.
A New Chapter for Belize City Hospitality
Fort George Belize’s addition to Marriott’s Autograph Collection introduces the property to an international audience while preserving its individual identity.
The Autograph Collection portfolio is known for hotels that reflect the character of their destinations rather than following a standardized design or guest experience.
As part of Marriott Bonvoy, Fort George Belize also allows eligible members to earn and redeem loyalty points on qualifying stays.
With its historic setting, expanding accommodations, new dining concepts, and emphasis on Belizean culture, Fort George Belize represents an interesting development for travelers looking to experience more of the country beyond its traditional beach destinations.
For those planning a Belize vacation, the hotel’s waterfront location and expanding amenities offer another reason to include Belize City in the itinerary.
