A New Chapter on the Great Barrier Reef: Orpheus Island Lodge Reopening July 2026

Morris Escapes’ Orpheus Island Lodge, the newest addition to Luxury Lodges of Australia on the Great Barrier Reef has announced a major renovation of its North Beachfront accommodation, reopening July 2026.

Award-winning Australian architecture and interior studio Dubois: – the designers for Morris Escapes’ Pelorus Private Island and Mt Mulligan Lodge – has been enlisted to transform the island lodge’s North Beachfront Rooms, Villas and Suites in 2026.

The renovated rooms will feature additional space, elevated ceilings, and new furnishings that highlight the seamless connection to the island’s natural surroundings. Situated on the northern side of the lodge’s main pavilion, the current North Beachfront accommodation includes rooms, suites and villas, making up more than half of the Orpheus Island Lodge’s total of 14 rooms. The new-look accommodation will provide guests with the option to interconnect a suite with a room to create an expansive standalone private villa.

With styling inspired by the Coral Sea views, the renovation will expand the footprint of the current North Beachfront accommodation indoors and out, featuring an elevated ceiling height will create an airy atmosphere synonymous with island luxury. This will be enhanced further by a coastal colour scheme, natural textured render walls, wooden accents and bespoke furnishings made using luxurious and natural materials.

The spacious outdoor living area, with its uninterrupted sea views, will be enhanced with the addition of timber decking, outdoor lounges and openable pergola with sliding screens for customisable levels of shade and privacy. The renovated North Beachfront Suites and Villas will also include a spacious separate living area that seamlessly opens to the private patio. Works will also include newly designed bathrooms finished with textured render, bronze tapware, double vanity and walk-in rain shower.

In line with Orpheus Island Lodge’s certification as an Advanced EcoTourism Australia property, the renovation has been carefully planned with the lodge’s ongoing dedication to sustainability in mind. All building materials will be sourced and selected with waste minimisation and carbon footprint reduction principles front and centre. Landscaping around the newly renovated suites will feature tropical plants native to North Queensland.

“This renovation is an investment in Orpheus’ future, ensuring it continues to set the benchmark for luxury on the Great Barrier Reef”, says Ross Penegar, CEO of Morris Escapes.

Orpheus Island Lodge will reopen to guests from July 2026. During this time, guests looking for the epitome of island luxury and seclusion on the Great Barrier Reef can still book stays at Morris Escapes’ two other Luxury Lodges of Australia, Pelorus Private Island or Mt Mulligan Lodge, or a Morris Nautical yacht charter.
