Heritage Line is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of its boutique vessel, Anouvong, to the Upper Mekong River in Laos, with new enhancements that promise to elevate the refined cruising experience. Originally launched in August 2023, Anouvong quickly gained popularity as the only luxury vessel sailing the Upper Mekong, with nearly all sailings sold out during its inaugural season. After completing the first season, Heritage Line took the ship out of operation for nine months for refurbishment to further enhance the cruise experience both on and off the vessels. The newly refurbished Anouvong will make its grand return on January 1, 2025, inviting discerning travelers to experience its blend of traditional Laotian ambiance and French-Colonial elegance.
As majestic as the Upper Mekong itself, Anouvong stands out among Heritage Line’s seven boutique vessels cruising through Southeast Asia. With ten exquisitely appointed staterooms and suites, it promises unparalleled comfort with spacious living quarters and sophisticated design as guests embark on a journey through some of the most breathtaking and remote areas of Laos. Notable improvements include an upgraded sun deck, now equipped with an outdoor jacuzzi pool and a refreshed shading concept, allowing guests to soak in the breathtaking views of the Mekong River. A small gym has also been introduced opposite the spa room, offering a fantastic setting for exercise against the stunning backdrop. Additionally, the reimagined layout of the Deluxe Executive Staterooms now provides an extra square meter (approximately 10.8 square feet) of space, ensuring enhanced comfort for guests. These staterooms boast double beds positioned to face panoramic windows with French Colonial balconies, enhancing comfort and privacy.
The renovation project also includes significant technical upgrades with a more powerful engine, ensuring a seamless passage through challenging but enchanting river sections. A redesigned rudder system enhances maneuverability, giving the ship captains the tools they need to navigate the river with precision.
“The Upper Mekong River is an exceptional waterway. The beauty of sailing this river lies in its sheer remoteness and its slow cadence that emanates the soul of Laos. Providing our guests an exceptional home for such a journey was one of our utmost objectives,” says Heritage Line Director of Sales and Marketing Andreas Schroetter. “These enhancements on the ship underline our commitment to crafting extraordinary experience off and on the ship. The re-designed sundeck with the pool and the much nicer alfresco ambiance together with the gym and the pretty tucked away couple spa are unparalleled facilities for passengers that make a Laos cruise adventure now a truly holistic lifestyle experience.”
With the newly revamped Anouvong, guests can embark on thoughtfully curated itineraries that showcase the beauty and culture of Laos. Itinerary options include a 3-night cruise from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang (and vice versa), where the journey winds through the enchanting Golden Triangle, or an extended 7-night adventure to Vientiane, featuring an enriching sightseeing tour of Luang Prabang and the chance to uncover remote corners of the country. Along the way, guests can explore the sacred Pak Ou Caves, experience the traditional Baci ceremony, and visit diverse riverside villages, engaging in activities such as kayaking, local craft demonstrations, and cultural performances. The longest voyage is the 9-night cruise from Vientiane to Huay Xai, where travelers can immerse themselves in the captivating landscapes and timeless traditions of Laos. Each journey offers an unparalleled Laotian riverine experience, blending spectacular backdrops, untouched riverside villages, and the rich tapestry of local culture.
