Since the outbreak of COVID-19 there has been a seismic shift in focus to “supporting local” and giving back to the community. Hotel Chais Monnet & Spa, Cognac’s only five-star hotel, has championed ”localism” since it first opened its doors by continuing to make a positive impact on the local community. The hotel has an abundance of charming features, all embedded in its local surroundings; from sourcing produce from the local biological micro-farm, to stocking locally brewed Brasserie des Gabariers beer in the hotel minibar, to the 220 local cognacs stocked in the Jazz bar, Le 1838. Here you will find staff wearing traditional Charentaise shoes from nearby Angoulême and exquisite French breakfasts delivered in handmade leather travel trunks. In the fine-dining restaurant, Les Foudres, guests can choose from a selection of handcrafted knives, made by local jeweller and bladesmith, Pascal Renoux.
The local craftspeople and their wares are really something to behold and the hotel is happy to organise trips for guests to discover the local area, in this lesser-known region of South West France.
