The city of Oaxaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most significant cultural and gastronomic destinations in the Americas. Its richness is expressed in ancestral celebrations such as Día de Muertos, a constantly evolving contemporary art scene, and a culinary tradition that is renowned around the world. In this context, Hotel Sin Nombre stands as a gateway to this universe, offering guests the opportunity to experience the city’s vibrant identity up close.
Conceived as a secret retreat in the heart of Oaxaca, just steps from the main square, Hotel Sin Nombre combines the intimacy of a home with the personalized attention of a boutique hotel. This haven renews its history while preserving the equation that defines it: sober architecture, living art, and hospitality rooted in calm. The restoration, carried out by RootStudio, restructured arches and columns, and added a glass dome that allows light to enter over the course of the day, creating a tranquil journey through courtyards and shadows. This new chapter enhances the hotel’s character and its vocation for warm hospitality, reaffirming its character as a space in dialogue with the city through serenity and balance.
The architectural intervention preserves the building’s essence while bringing it into the present: vaulted ceilings, centuries-old ironwork, whitewashed walls, and a restrained palette that highlights textures and proportions without excess. The rooms embrace warm minimalism, where tropical woods, crisp textiles, and matte-finished stone engage in dialogue with the light descending from the central dome. Circulations have been adjusted to preserve silence, with clear routes between terraces and communal areas, allowing the entire house to breathe with a uniform rhythm. From above, Santo Domingo and the Cathedral emerge as reminders of belonging: the hotel contemplates Oaxaca, and Oaxaca embraces it.
At Hotel Sin Nombre, art is experienced as part of life rather than mere ornament. Moving around the space, photography by Alberto “Negro” Ibáñez occupies rooms and corridors; graphic design and signage by Carlito Dalceggio engage with walls and functional items; and metal sculptures by Fulvio Capurso outline the skyline from the terrace. Beneath the staircase, the Bibliotekita by Elliott Coon invites an intimate pause among mirrors and neon, while occasional collaborations—such as that of Dr. Lakra at Cantinita—revitalize the pulse of each season. Everything coexists naturally with the architecture, as if it had always belonged there.
This openness extends to its cultural programming, designed for guests and local visitors alike. As part of an Open Gallery, the hotel organizes a free weekly film club, intimate concerts, and presentations that resonate with the atmosphere of the place. Rather than competing with cultural venues, the intention is to bring art closer to the daily lives of travelers and neighbors, creating a hospitable space where rest, inspiration, and community coexist.
The culinary offering enhances the guest experience with a menu that adapts to the rhythm of each stay: simple yet carefully executed dishes—such as a perfectly crafted burger, a crisp pizza, or straightforward snacks—that contrast with Oaxaca’s gastronomic abundance. Restaurante Sin Nombre, located on the rooftop terrace, and Cantinita each offer their own ambiance, with crafted cocktails and a relaxed spirit, always guided by one clear premise: that guests eat well and rest even better. To achieve this, the team carefully curates schedules, music, and atmosphere, ensuring the overall sense of calm that defines the house.

The hotel’s rooftop becomes a space designed for leisure and contemplation: open to the city’s domes and surrounding valleys, shaded by native vegetation and bamboo that filter light and refresh the air. Within this setting, the terrace pool becomes a central point of relaxation and reflection facing the landscape. Every detail is conceived to elevate the everyday—whether through a strategically placed chair or the shade arriving at just the right moment.
With RootStudio as a partner in material foundations and in continual dialogue with the artistic community, Hotel Sin Nombre reaffirms its promise as a serene oasis in Oaxaca’s Historic Center: a contemporary house that honors its origins and offers every guest a climate of belonging. Light accompanies each day, art appears with ease, cuisine enriches the experience, and service discreetly sets the rhythm—so that from the first welcome to the last sunset on the terrace, the hotel is a place to rest, reflect, and connect.
