JOEY Restaurants and Steam Whistle Brewing Partner to Celebrate Canada’s 150th

JOEY Restaurants and Steam Whistle Brewing

This summer, JOEY Restaurant Group and Steam Whistle Brewing have teamed up to offer a unique taste of Canada to commemorate and celebrate our nation’s 150th. Beer is the beverage that Canadians reach for most often when celebrating, so this partnership offers the perfect toast to our country. The JOEY + Steam Whistle collaboration kicks off with a series of patio parties across Canada, and continues all summer long with new globally inspired menu items recommended to pair with Canada’s Premium Pilsner.

Shared Philosophy

The partnership is a natural as both JOEY and Steam Whistle are like-minded independent, Canadian companies; each invests in great ingredients and passionate artistry from credentialed experts to deliver a superior taste experience to customers. Their product offerings both take inspiration from exceptional international cuisine and beverage styles, but are made uniquely Canadian with original recipes and fresh, home-grown ingredients.

“This is a monumental summer and a time to celebrate our history not only as a nation but here at JOEY. Twenty-five years ago, Jeff Fuller founded JOEY Restaurants. What better way to celebrate both milestones than partnering with Steam Whistle Brewing, another great Canadian brand and product,” said Executive Chef of JOEY Restaurant Group, Chris Mills.

“We are honoured to be partnering with one of Canada’s foremost national restaurant groups. We respect and share the value they place on quality ingredients, inspired dining and exceptional customer experience,” said Greg Taylor, Co-founder of Steam Whistle.

The JOEY Menu

JOEY Restaurant Group curates a dining experience with locally and globally inspired, handcrafted offerings. Executive Chef, Chris Mills and Concept Development Chef, Ted Anderson (pictured) travel the world to bring new flavours to the menu. A selection of these new items was inspired by their travels through Asia and South Asia.

“We’re excited to bring some new bold and vibrant exotic dishes to the menu. Steam Whistle Pilsner is a perfect pairing with these new offerings as the delicate, balanced flavour of the pilsner compliments the more aromatic notes in the dishes,” says Chef Mills.

These new items include the:

  • Night Market Curry Dip – Addictively spicy and flavourful, softly cooked chickpeas are tempered with coconut milk, fragrant curry paste and citrus juice. Served with cilantro, mint, house baked naan bread and crispy poppadum. Inspired by the chef’s visits to South East Asian Night Markets, this dish is perfect for sharing.
  • Osaka Style Pressed Salmon Sushi – Torched with umami mayo and topped with crispy tempura bits and shaved serrano chili pepper, this Osaka style pressed sushi combines our premium sliced salmon with perfectly seasoned sushi rice.
  • Katsu Chicken Peanut Salad – Fusion at its finest. “Chicken Katsu” is a Japanese dish of a seasoned crispy chicken breast, popular in Hawaii. This is the foundation to our Katsu Chicken Salad, we top this with a super refreshing salad of green papaya, kale, vegetables and peanuts, all tossed in a miso carrot dressing.

“Each dish offers a different experience and brings you to a different locale while the Steam Whistle Pilsner accentuates the food perfectly. Its champagne quality works wonderfully with the dishes,” says Chef Anderson.

Food + Beer Pairing

Canadian Certified Cicerone, Crystal Luxmore weighs in on why these food pairings work so well. “Steam Whistle Pilsner is a clean, refreshing lager that balances baguette-like sweetness with floral hop bitterness. Steam Whistle is bold enough to match the spices in these dishes, without clobbering the food’s flavours. And its bold effervescence cleanses your palate, readying you for the next bite.”

Availability

Steam Whistle Pilsner is available in bottles and on draught at all twenty-three Canadian JOEY locations [six in British Columbia; eight in Alberta; two in Manitoba; seven in Ontario, including JOEY Rideau, a brand new location in Ottawa]. The new menu items will also be available at all JOEY locations and offer options to meet the needs of all guests whether they are looking for something to share, or something to enjoy alone.
