Malaysia’Iconic Rainforest Resort launches ‘Consciously Datai’

An inspiring array of activities allows guests to actively contribute to driving positive change

Experience the luxury of The Datai Langkawi with the newly introduced ‘Consciously Datai’ package, crafted to inspire guests to engage with vital regeneration initiatives and make meaningful contributions to the environment. This unique offering invites guests to connect deeply with nature through native tree planting, upcycling workshops, behind-the-scenes tours of the resort’s sustainability operations, and guided jungle walks led by experts.

The package provides an immersive experience that underscores The Datai Langkawi’s unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship. Guests can actively support the local ecosystem by planting a sapling from the resort’s Native Tree Nursery within the surrounding rainforest.

A special behind-the-scenes tour grants guests a rare glimpse into the resort’s comprehensive waste management system. The tour begins at the sorting and upcycling center, where visitors observe waste segregation and upcycling processes. It continues to the organic wealth center, where non-recyclable solid waste is transformed into non-toxic vapor and ash. Then it moves on to the water bottling plant, which produces the resort’s drinking water. The tour also includes visiting the permaculture garden, where guests learn about zero-waste processes that supply fresh produce and medicinal herbs to the resort’s kitchens.

As part of the ‘Consciously Datai’ package, guests can choose between a serene Forest Bathing Ritual or an invigorating trek to Langkawi’s picturesque Crystal Creek. The Forest Bathing Ritual, a gentle, mindful walk into the rainforest at the base of Machinchang mountain, draws on the traditional Malaysian practice of Mandi Embun, or ‘bathing in forest dew’, known for its meditative and wellness benefits. Alternatively, families with children aged four and up can join the resort’s naturalists on a peaceful walk to Crystal Creek to enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pool.

Guests are also invited to participate in an upcycling workshop at The Lab, where they can explore the art of sustainable craft-making. These workshops offer insights into how old materials can be repurposed into new products like soap and candles, sparking discussions on sustainable living and the importance of recycling in reducing landfill waste.

Additionally, 10 percent of all bookings for the ‘Consciously Datai’ package will be donated to The Datai Pledge, the resort’s sustainability and conservation trust.

Commenting on the launch, Stephane Duvacher, General Manager at The Datai Langkawi, said: “By immersing our guests in educational experiences and sustainability practices, we have seen them become passionate advocates for regenerative travel. We are thrilled to introduce the ‘Consciously Datai’ experience, which offers our guests an even greater opportunity to connect with and support the preservation of our natural world.”

Since opening over 30 years ago, The Datai Langkawi has remained dedicated to responsible stewardship of its breathtaking surroundings in nature and the local community—a commitment formalized in 2019 with establishing The Datai Pledge, a private trust dedicated to driving positive environmental change.
