On the site of an iconic former backpacker’s haunt in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, a new luxury boutique country accommodation has been launched – offering a new isolated country retreat for the discerning traveller.
Offered by award winning New Zealand travel expert, New Zealand In Depth, the new Gardener’s Folly is in an isolated plot in the Ruapehu District.
The newly renovated 90m2 private detached cottage, with 50m2 covered deck, has opened to guests this month offering a spacious country two bed accommodation with expansive views across the rolling green-pastured hills and valleys.
“The new Gardener’s Folly is perfectly located in the heart of pristine New Zealand wilderness that connects you with the landscape, all form the comfort of a vibrant nature inspired cottage,” said Paul Carberry, founder of New Zealand in Depth.
“Perfectly positioned within a copse of maple trees, The Gardener’s Folly is surrounded by acres of stunning Forgotten World farmland.
“As it is offered on an exclusive basis only, guests will have sole use of all the facilities and can even include a private chef dining experience to elevate the stay further.”
The property comes with its own fully equipped designer kitchen complete with Carrara marble benches and a custom-made recycled milk carton floor – tying the building into the ground’s history as a sheep and beef farm.
The two ensuite bedrooms come with bespoke décor and design, queen sized beds with luxurious linen, antique furniture and art – continuing your connection with the outside and guaranteed to provide guests with a soothing night’s sleep.
Carberry adds, “Guests can also shower under glass-roofed sunshine with a walk-in double shower with twin rain-heads, bespoke toiletries and sculpture finished with a pressed-tin ceiling.
“The whole experience connects you to the local surroundings. From the huge, covered deck to the nature inspired decor and use of natural materials. The whole experience feels like the outdoors is giving you a big hug!”
The region is perfect for anyone wanting to kick back and relax, or an ideal jump off point for Tongariro Crossing where lava flows, an active crater, steam vents, emerald-coloured lakes and magnificent views combine to make this an unforgettable walking journey; and Forgotten World Adventures where guests travel along an abandoned railway line by rail cart and enjoy a front row seat in our country’s pioneering history.
