Newport Harbor Island Resort, a quintessential New England coastal destination and the only resort on Goat Island, is thrilled to announce its official opening today, following a full reimagination. Owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and operated by Davidson Resorts, today’s reopening marks a new era for the former-Gurney’s Newport Resort and Marina property, comprised of transformed, expansive guestrooms and suites, contemporary Spa, re-concepted culinary experiences, meeting spaces, and 22-slip marina.
Paying homage to the destination’s coastal New England spirit, Newport Harbor Island Resort partnered with Dawson Design Associates (DDA) to reinvent the property, which sits on the site of a former torpedo factory, to bring strong cohesion to its spaces and weave the common threads of simplicity, warmth and coastal New England comfort and art throughout. The comprehensive renovation comprises all common spaces, dining venues, guest rooms, meeting and event spaces, as well as the on-site Spa. The resort boasts the most event space in Newport with nearly 30,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, ideal for both large- and small-scale weddings, meetings, conferences and more. Those looking to book events on-property can expect a dedicated sales team that goes beyond basic servicing to provide a guest-centric, robust service approach that streamlines events while delivering a tailored quintessential Newport experience.
As part of the opening, Newport Harbor Island Resort also now offers an abundance of activities both on- and off-site under the direction of new Recreation Manager, Rebecca Violette. These experiences include group clambakes and fireside s’mores to wellness classes, movie nights, and an extensive Kids’ Club, as well as a new, larger-occupancy seasonal water taxi directly from the resort marina to downtown Newport kicking off Memorial Day Weekend.
To complement days filled with immersive experiences, the all-day dining at Torpedo Bar & Lounge features local favorites like Blue Crab Toast, Tarragon Lobster and Piri Piri Chicken. Evocative of an early New England-style patisserie, the new café The Bakery functions as a warm and inviting space to grab coffee drinks and freshly baked goods to-go.
Opening Memorial Day Weekend in time for the summer season, the resort’s full-service restaurant, 1639, will treat guests and locals to dinner menu items showcasing fresh seafood and New England favorites including clam chowder, lobster, prime filets and creative pasta dishes, along with extended service to the Marina Deck and dockside. Meanwhile, the beloved Pineapple Club, also opening Memorial Day Weekend, will debut a new menu of lobster rolls, fresh seafood, salads, flatbreads, and classics from the grill to pair perfectly with a day in the sun. Pineapple Club will also have expanded cabana seating with a new adults-only section, and special pop-up programming, from local sketch artists to seasonal culinary installations.
“We are proud to usher in the new era of Newport Harbor Island Resort with today’s reopening,” Chris Tatum, Managing Director of Newport Harbor Island Resort, shared. “We welcome families, couples, and friends to create lasting memories throughout the year as they discover all our reimaged resort has to offer.”
Located steps away from the water and downtown Newport, Newport Harbor Island Resort affords guests premier access to the idyllic New England town.
