Octant Douro, perched on the hillside terraces of Castelo de Paiva in Portugal, today announces the launch of its new House Collection, expanding the hotel’s accommodation offerings. This update follows the hotel’s reopening in March, which introduced an expanded spa menu, a redesigned lobby and common areas, and refreshed dining spaces.
Introducing the House Collection
The House Collection, featuring 20 new design-led, residential-style accommodations that blend seamlessly with the Douro landscape—each offering dedicated personal service for an elevated, tailor-made stay. With this expansion, the hotel now offers a total of 79 rooms and suites, reflecting its ongoing commitment to personalized experiences and accommodating the needs of all travelers.
The new House Collection includes four new split-level, two-bedroom accommodations, each with a living area, dining space, kitchen and three of them with a private plunge pool. A further 16 one-bedroom options – four of which also include private plunge pools – feature elegantly designed bedrooms, balconies with stunning views, interior patios and surrounding gardens.

The inspiration for the House Collection is rooted in a deep appreciation for the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and architectural traditions of the Douro region. The goal was to create spaces that feel both refined and deeply connected to the surrounding area: earthy tones of the terraced hillside and the serene flow of the river. This has been achieved with the use of traditional Portuguese materials including local schist stone, wood, corten steel and handcrafted tiles.
“I wanted each space to embody a sense of understated luxury, where architecture and interior design work together to provide a tranquil, immersive experience,” said Architect and Interior Designer, Cristina Jorge de Carvalho. “Large openings frame breathtaking views, natural textures create warmth, and a carefully curated palette mirrors the ever-changing hues of the landscape. Sustainability was a fundamental pillar of the project. From the integration of natural ventilation systems to the use of locally sourced materials, every decision was made with a commitment to preserving the environment while enhancing the guest experience.”
Within the private gardens of the House Collection, guests can experience more private, intimate experiences than ever, including:
- Yoga sessions
- Personalized massages
- Tibetan bowl meditation
- Garden BBQs
Within the comfort of their own space, guests can also enjoy expert chef-led dinners, cheese, cured meats and wine tasting with the sommeliers, or hands-on mixology sessions.
An Expanded Spa Menu
Beyond its new House Collection, Octant Douro has also expanded its spa menu with treatments aimed at enhancing relaxation and muscle relief. The 60/90-minute Octant Relief Massage combines specialized massage techniques with the newly introduced Octant Relief Balm, developed exclusively for Octant Hotels. This treatment targets muscle tension, stiffness, and discomfort. For those seeking stress relief, the Stress Relief Treatment offers a full-body massage followed by a lavender and bergamot-infused bath, promoting deep relaxation and serenity.
The Octant Relief Balm is key to these treatments, formulated with essential oils of Peppermint, Cajeput, Chinese Cinnamon, and Carnation, combined with Menthol and natural Camphor for immediate soothing relief. Designed to penetrate quickly, the balm reduces pain, inflammation, and muscle tension, making it an ideal solution for athletes and anyone seeking effective muscle recovery. These new offerings further elevate the spa experience at Octant Douro, combining therapeutic touch with the healing properties of nature.
Common Area Refresh
In addition, Octant Douro has renovated its lobby area, introducing a new check-in desk, waiting room, and other peaceful corridors for those seeking quiet sanctuary. The À TERRA restaurant has been fully refurbished with new sofas, chairs, and tables, creating a fresh atmosphere designed by architect Cristina Jorge de Carvalho. The expansion also adds more indoor seating and tables.
In their free time, guests can take to the water, enjoying breakfast aboard Octant Douro’s restored Rabelo boat, or trying their hand at paddle boarding. A blissful experience for avid hikers, the Douro International Natural Park Trails are just within reach, offering walks through rugged terrain, canyons and forests, complete with beautiful waterfalls, whilst spotting rare birds and wildlife.
Combining luxury and localism, Octant Douro celebrates the authenticity of its soil, with organised wine tastings and vineyard tours.
