Ser Casasandra, an intimate art-filled hotel on Mexico’s Isla Holbox, is introducing a new collection of wellness retreats focused on mindfulness, conscious movement, emotional reflection, and personal renewal.
Ser Retreats will take place from September through November 2026 as part of the hotel’s AHAL Season, a seasonal program inspired by Holbox’s quieter pace. According to the property, “Ahal” means “awakening” in Maya, reflecting the program’s emphasis on pausing, turning inward, and reconnecting with oneself.
The inaugural series includes three retreats led by international facilitators. Each program follows a different methodology, incorporating practices such as meditation, breathwork, somatic movement, therapeutic writing, self-inquiry, and emotional release.
A Wellness Retreat Shaped by Holbox
Located off the northern coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, Isla Holbox is known for its sandy streets, shallow turquoise water, mangroves, wildlife, and relaxed atmosphere.
The island’s slower rhythm plays an important role in the Ser Retreats experience. Rather than treating the hotel simply as accommodation, the programs use the property and its surroundings to encourage reflection, movement, rest, and time in nature.
Retreat activities may take place in the hotel’s holistic center, art-filled communal areas, gardens, and along the beach. Walks by the sea, sunset meditations, and periods of unstructured rest complement the facilitated sessions.
Ser Casasandra describes its approach to well-being as less about correcting or “fixing” participants and more about creating the space to observe personal patterns, slow down, and develop greater awareness.
The End of Struggle: Living in Love
September 20–27, 2026
The first retreat in the series, The End of Struggle: Living in Love, will be led by spiritual teacher David Ellzey.
The seven-day program introduces participants to The Sedona Method, an approach centered on recognizing and releasing unwanted thoughts and emotions. Conscious breathing, meditation, and self-inquiry will be used throughout the retreat.
Sessions are designed to help participants examine emotional resistance, quiet mental distractions, and approach everyday experiences with greater presence and compassion.
The retreat is presented as an opportunity for personal reflection rather than a conventional spa vacation. Guests should expect a structured program combining group sessions, individual contemplation, and restorative time within the hotel and island environment.
RESET: Sea, Soul & Stillness
October 21–25, 2026
The second retreat, RESET: Sea, Soul & Stillness, will be hosted by Shirayam Daniele Ribeiro.
This four-day program brings together mindfulness, somatic practices, therapeutic writing, Satori Dance, and guided sessions inspired by The Work of Byron Katie.
The retreat focuses on examining thoughts, emotions, and inner narratives while developing a more grounded relationship with the body. Conscious movement and dance are incorporated alongside quieter practices such as writing, meditation, and walks by the sea.
Time in nature is an integral part of the program. Beach walks, sunset meditation, and opportunities for rest are intended to help participants step away from habitual routines and reflect with fewer distractions.
Freedom from the Ego
November 12–15, 2026
The final scheduled retreat of the season, Freedom from the Ego, will be created and led by Ser Casasandra founder Sandra Pérez Lozano.
The four-day experience explores non-dual awareness and what the hotel describes as Kinesiology of the True Self. Participants will be guided through practices intended to identify emotional memories, limiting beliefs, and personal narratives that may continue to influence present experiences.
The program incorporates body-based work, guided periods of silence, self-observation, and group integration. It is intended for participants interested in intensive self-inquiry and spiritually oriented personal development.
Pérez Lozano, an artist as well as the hotel’s founder, has guided self-inquiry and inner-transformation programs for more than two decades. Her creative work and personal philosophy are also reflected throughout the hotel.
Full descriptions of the three programs are available through the official Ser Retreats calendar.
Personalized AHAL Retreats
Travelers unable to attend one of the scheduled group programs can create a personalized wellness stay through the hotel’s AHAL Personal Retreat option.
Available practices may include meditation, mindful movement, kinesiology, sound-based relaxation, Reiki, biomagnetism, and emotional-release sessions. Guests can select experiences according to their interests and preferred pace rather than following a fixed group schedule.
Because holistic therapies vary considerably in their methods and supporting evidence, travelers should review the details of each treatment before booking. These programs should be viewed as personal wellness experiences and not as replacements for licensed medical or mental health care.
Inside Ser Casasandra
Ser Casasandra has 18 rooms and suites, along with a private villa. The property’s intimate size helps maintain a quiet, residential atmosphere during retreats.
The hotel was created by Cuban artist Sandra Pérez Lozano, whose work appears throughout the property alongside pieces by other artists. Mexican and Cuban craftsmanship, natural materials, handmade furniture, cotton and linen textiles, and original artworks shape the interiors.
Guestrooms intentionally omit televisions and telephones, reinforcing the hotel’s emphasis on reducing distractions. Accommodations range from garden rooms to ocean-facing suites and a private residence.
The AHAL Holistic Center serves as the heart of the property’s wellness programming. Outside the scheduled retreats, activities can include sunrise yoga, Pilates, meditation, sound experiences, and personalized therapies.
Dining is another part of the stay. The hotel’s culinary approach draws on Mexican and Cuban influences, seasonal ingredients, and lighter wellness-oriented dishes. Retreat meals are designed to complement the scheduled activities and provide time for participants to gather between sessions.
Experiencing Isla Holbox
Guests should leave space in their itinerary to explore Holbox beyond the retreat schedule.
Bicycles and golf-cart taxis are common ways to travel around the island. Visitors can explore its beaches, walk through the town center, visit local restaurants, kayak near mangroves, or take boat excursions through the surrounding nature reserve.
Weather and sea conditions can affect island transportation and outdoor activities, particularly during the fall. Travelers should confirm ferry schedules and consider leaving sufficient time between their mainland connections and flights.
Holbox’s informal character is central to its appeal, but visitors should arrive prepared for sandy and occasionally flooded streets, mosquitoes, tropical rain, and a more relaxed approach to schedules than they might encounter at a large mainland resort.
Planning a Ser Retreats Stay
The scheduled programs range from four to seven days and vary significantly in their methods and intensity. Prospective participants should review each retreat’s daily structure, facilitator credentials, physical requirements, group format, and cancellation terms before committing.
Travelers should also ask whether accommodations, meals, airport and ferry transfers, wellness sessions, and free time are included in their selected program.
Ser Retreats adds a more structured wellness dimension to an already reflective hotel experience. By combining guided practices with art, nature, nourishing meals, and the unhurried pace of Isla Holbox, the series offers travelers an opportunity to make personal well-being the central purpose of their trip.
