Songtsam, an award-winning luxury boutique hotel collection and Destination Management Company, located in the Tibet and Yunnan Provinces of China introduced two new autumn themed gift boxes exclusively for Songtsam guests coming to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as the Moon Festival and the Mooncake Festival) on September 29, 2023.
The spectacular view of the Moon during this time is especially enjoyed by guests staying at the Songtsam Lodge Namcha Barwa, located in Dalin Village in Tibet. Every room has a balcony that faces the famous Namcha Barwa snow mountain, the Father of Tibetan Mountains, which towers 25,531.5 feet above sea level.
“On the Top of the Dongshan Mountain” Mid-Autumn Festival Gift Box
The beautiful moonlit scenery reminds visitors of Tsangyang Gyatso’s poetic masterpiece, “On the Top of the Dongshan Mountain,” a poem later written as a melody. This poem, known to many even if they have never been to Tibet, gave inspiration to the Songtsam Mid-Autumn Festival Gift Box. The box itself depicts the spectacular view of the famous Namcha Barwa snow mountain with the mesmerizing Mid-Autumn Moon shining from above.
This year’s Songtsam Mid-Autumn Festival gift box includes a selection of 6 pieces of Yunnan local flavor shortbread. The gift box also contains: 2 pieces of Jicong ham crisps, 2 red treasure matsutake crisps and 2 golden diamond truffle crisps, which are especially delicious when eaten in the Autumn season.
The Traditional Ceremony of the Mid-Autumn Festival
During the Traditional Ceremony of the Mid-Autumn Festival, in addition to eating moon cakes, there are activities such as bathing, burning incense, offerings to the moon and admiring the moon. The Songtsam Gift Box contains everything guests need to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in its entirety.
Old Pomelo Tree – a Hope & Prayer for Good Fortune
Songtsam specially selected the 30-year-old pomelo tree in Xishuangbanna because of its unique and distinctive fragrance. Planted in probiotic soil, the rich pomelo taste is refreshing and sweet. In Yunnan, the pomelo is a prayer and a hope to have good fortune, and is usually depicted as a gift around holidays or as temple offerings.
