In the heart of Amsterdam’s historic canal district, The Dylan Amsterdam continues to redefine boutique hospitality through design-forward renovations and sustainable upgrades that honor its 17th-century roots. Set along the Keizersgracht, this five-star retreat has completed a multi-phase transformation of 21 of its 41 rooms and suites, each a reflection of the hotel’s evolving philosophy of timeless design, bespoke craftsmanship, and future-proof hospitality.
A Legacy Reimagined
The Dylan is set within Amsterdam’s first stone theater, designed in 1638 by Jacob van Campen. Guests still pass through the original gate, inscribed with a verse by poet Joost van den Vondel, before stepping into a world where centuries-old architecture meets modern refinement.
The transformation began in late 2023 with the Loft Suites, designed in collaboration with Amsterdam-based Studio Linse and Format Furniture. These suites embody understated elegance with tactile materials and a seamless blend of old and new. “We wanted the rooms to feel quietly confident,” explains Paul Linse, founder of Studio Linse. “No marble or gold—just materials that speak for themselves.” The spaces feature custom oakwood cabinetry with quartzite tops, freestanding Vallone bathtubs, and curated furnishings that balance vintage finds with contemporary pieces.

In May 2024, attention turned to the Serendipity building, originally added in 2014. Interiors first designed by Dutch architect Remy Meijers were updated by Studio Linse with warmer tones, ornamental moldings, and soft carpets. Format Furniture added made-to-measure vanities, mirrors, and lighting. “Every piece was made to measure,” notes Jikke Snelleman, Co-Founder of Format Furniture. “We worked closely with Studio Linse to ensure the materials and finishes reflected The Dylan’s quiet sophistication. It’s not about opulence—it’s about timelessness.”
Quiet Luxury Meets Conscious Design
Already Green Globe Certified, The Dylan continues to advance its sustainability practices. Recent upgrades include high-performance Fineo insulation glass throughout the Serendipity building, interior façade insulation, and a heat recovery ventilation system that minimizes energy waste. A seasonal thermal energy storage system is also underway, enabling sustainable heating and cooling via underground storage. Together, these innovations seamlessly weave sustainability into the guest experience without compromising heritage aesthetics.
More Than a Stay
The Dylan’s evolution extends beyond its rooms. A refreshed lounge debuted in 2023, followed by the launch of até, a six-seat chef’s table concept, in 2024. Renovated meeting spaces—including the Ariana, Atrium, Regents, and Barbou rooms—offer refined backdrops for weddings, private dinners, and curated gatherings, all framed by the property’s 17th-century architecture and tranquil inner garden. Guests can also indulge at the hotel’s 2* Michelin restaurant, Vinkeles, or look forward to a new gym, set to open in spring 2026.
The Next Chapter
With more than half of its rooms now reimagined, The Dylan Amsterdam continues its quiet evolution. Heritage lives on, beauty is intentional, and every detail speaks with purpose—an invitation to experience a new chapter of boutique luxury where history and innovation meet.
