Tuscany: Castello di Vicarello Reopens for the 2026 Season

Set against the rolling beauty of Tuscany’s Maremma region, Castello di Vicarello—a boutique, family-run estate—has welcomed guests back for the 2026 season with a series of new, highly curated experiences. At the forefront is Villa La Vedetta, a striking two-bedroom residence created from a restored 12th-century watchtower. The Baccheschi-Berti brothers, custodians of the estate, continue to nurture its vineyards, gardens, and surrounding countryside, shaping immersive experiences that reflect a deep respect for heritage, craftsmanship, and authentic Italian hospitality.

Tailored Experiences for 2026

This season introduces a collection of bespoke aerial journeys in partnership with a local pilot. Departing from Grosseto’s private airport, guests can design personalized itineraries—whether it’s a day trip to Elba, a scenic flight over Montalcino and Val d’Orcia, or a sweeping tour of the Tuscan coastline, with sunset departures available into the early evening. Back on the estate, a new collaboration with Gabriela Grandi of Copihue Atelier offers intimate perfume-making sessions set within the castle’s vibrant vegetable gardens. Here, guests craft custom fragrances with notes of rose, sandalwood, lavender, and rosemary, surrounded by an abundance of seasonal produce and aromatic herbs.

A Watchtower Reimagined

Villa La Vedetta blends historic character with refined design, honoring its origins while offering contemporary comfort. Carefully restored using traditional materials—hand-carved woodwork, Marmorino plaster, French oak parquet, terracotta, stone, and signature black-and-white marble—the villa embodies understated elegance. Spread across four levels and more than 2,000 square feet, it features two generous suites with marble bathrooms and freestanding copper tubs. The ground floor opens into a welcoming living space with a fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private garden. Outdoors, nearly 5,000 square feet of secluded grounds include a heated pool and a rooftop terrace with sweeping views over the estate and surrounding vineyards.

Harvest Traditions & Culinary Discovery

The rhythms of the land define autumn at Castello di Vicarello. September brings the grape harvest, followed by the olive picking season from mid-October through November. Guests are invited to take part—walking the vineyards alongside Brando Baccheschi-Berti, learning traditional harvesting methods, and sampling the estate’s small-batch organic wines. Produced from 17 acres of high-density vines, these wines reflect the estate’s unique terroir, shaped by mineral-rich soils, coastal breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the shelter of Monte Amiata.

For a deeper connection to the land, truffle hunting offers an unforgettable excursion. Guided by a local expert and a trained truffle dog, guests venture into the forest at first light to uncover these prized delicacies. The experience concludes with a farm-to-table meal, where freshly foraged truffles are paired with local ingredients and the estate’s own wines—an authentic taste of Tuscany at its most elemental.
