Two Journeys in One: Icelandair Expands with Venice, Edinburgh, and Málaga

Tourism and sightseeing, water buses and taxes on Grand Canal in Venice

Icelandair is once again redefining transatlantic travel with its celebrated Stopover Program, inviting passengers to experience two destinations for the price of one. Whether you’re en route from North America to Europe or returning home, travelers can pause their journey in Iceland for up to seven days — without additional airfare — to explore the island’s waterfalls, glaciers, geothermal lagoons, and the vibrant culture of Reykjavík.

A Growing Network of Iconic Destinations

Building on nearly nine decades of aviation excellence, Icelandair continues to strengthen its European network with exciting new routes. Beginning May 22, 2026, the airline will launch direct flights to Venice, Italy — operating three times weekly from Reykjavík on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays through October 18. Venice will become Icelandair’s third Italian destination, joining Rome and Milan. The route opens seamless access to one of Europe’s most romantic cities, where canals replace roads and Gothic palaces shimmer in the Adriatic light.

At the same time, Icelandair is expanding its reach in the United Kingdom with the addition of Edinburgh, Scotland, beginning September 12, 2025. The route marks a significant milestone as the airline celebrates 80 years of service to Scotland, complementing its existing Glasgow flights. Operating three to four times weekly on Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, the schedule is designed for smooth connections across Icelandair’s transatlantic network.

Further south, Málaga — one of Icelandair’s most in-demand sun destinations — will now offer nearly year-round service, extending flights beyond the summer season to capture the warmth of Spain’s Costa del Sol during the cooler months.

The Stopover Advantage

For travelers crossing the Atlantic, Icelandair’s Stopover Program is a unique way to transform a flight into an adventure. Guests can enjoy a one- to seven-day stay in Iceland at no additional airfare, discovering dramatic landscapes and vibrant culture before continuing to Europe or North America. The airline offers curated itineraries for 24-, 48-, and 72-hour stopovers, making it effortless to visit landmarks like the Blue Lagoon, Gullfoss waterfall, or the black-sand beaches of Vík — all within a short drive of Reykjavík.

Connecting Continents, Cultures, and Experiences

According to Icelandair CEO Bogi Nils Bogason, the airline’s expanding network reflects its commitment to “develop our network in line with the needs and preferences of our customers,” adding that the carrier’s flexible model allows it to “respond quickly to market changes and introduce exciting new destinations like Venice.”

With service to around 60 destinations across Europe and North America, Icelandair’s transatlantic hub in Reykjavík continues to bridge continents — and now, with its new routes and enhanced Stopover options, it’s making it easier than ever for travelers to experience two unforgettable journeys in one.
