Uniworld Reveals Mekong Mystique, a New Boutique River Ship for Vietnam and Cambodia

A floral-tiled pool, garden-inspired decks, and suites framed by arched windows offer the first glimpse of Uniworld’s next chapter on the Mekong. The river cruise line has unveiled renderings of Mekong Mystique, a new ship scheduled to begin sailing through Vietnam and Cambodia in September 2028.

Joining the existing Mekong Jewel, the vessel will expand Uniworld’s presence in Southeast Asia with a design that draws on the region’s architecture, craftsmanship, and tropical surroundings. For travelers considering a Mekong river cruise, the preview points to an intimate onboard experience with as much attention paid to the interiors as to the scenery outside.

A Design Story Rooted in Saigon

Mekong Mystique’s interiors are the work of Madame Diep Ngoc Le of Lotus Cruises. Her early career as a curtain seamstress in Saigon helped develop an appreciation for the city’s colonial architecture and decorative craftsmanship, influences that now inform the ship’s residential aesthetic.

Uniworld describes the design as a blend of classic Indochine influences and European elegance. The renderings show how that approach will take shape: botanical patterns, rich wood, and antique-inspired furnishings create rooms with the layered appearance of a private residence.

In the lobby, wood flooring and a prominent staircase establish the decorative tone. Throughout the planned interiors, natural materials and floral details connect the design to the landscapes the ship will travel through.

An Intimate, All-Suite Ship

According to Uniworld’s published ship specifications, Mekong Mystique will accommodate 68 guests, with 51 staff and 34 suites across five categories.

The accommodation lineup includes 30 suites measuring approximately 347 square feet, two Grand Suites of 657 square feet, and two Royal Suites spanning 889 square feet. That small passenger count gives the ship a scale likely to appeal to travelers who favor boutique hotels and more intimate cruise experiences.

The newly released suite renderings feature arched floor-to-ceiling windows and ornate decorative details. Bathrooms continue the botanical theme, pairing toile-style wallpaper and hand-painted vanities with gilded mirrors and brass fixtures.

These are preview images of a ship still to come, but they establish a clear direction: richly detailed spaces designed to feel personal and residential.

A Two-Story Sundeck with a Garden Atmosphere

One of the most distinctive planned features is a two-story sundeck, which Uniworld says will be a first for the brand.

At its center will be an expansive pool finished with floral tiles, surrounded by greenery, scalloped awnings, and decorative ironwork. The effect in the renderings is closer to an open-air garden terrace than a conventional pool deck.

For guests, this promises a setting for taking a break between excursions while keeping the river landscape in view. The pool and surrounding outdoor spaces also extend the ship’s botanical design story beyond its interiors.

Exploring Vietnam and Cambodia Along the Mekong

Mekong Mystique is scheduled to sail Uniworld’s Timeless Wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekongitinerary beginning in September 2028. The 15-day journey is listed between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, with experiences that introduce travelers to Vietnam and Cambodia’s markets, temples, and local communities.

Uniworld says the onboard offering will combine curated excursions with regional cuisine, giving the destinations a presence both on shore and at the table.

For travelers planning ahead, the ship adds another option for exploring Southeast Asia through a small-ship journey. Its first-look renderings suggest a particular appeal for guests who enjoy architecture and decorative arts, with the Mekong’s surroundings reflected in everything from suite vanities to the pool tiles.
