What are the Best Beaches in Cala d’Or?

Mallorca is renowned for its stunning, white sandy beaches, providing the perfect beach holiday destination, especially in the warmer summer months. The island is bestowed with every type of beach you might want to visit, from long beaches with endless watersports activities to secluded coves with picturesque backdrops.

Beaches in Mallorca are often compared to the Caribbean and the likeness is so close that some of the beaches have even been used as the setting for filming scenes in movies to stand in for Caribbean locations.

Cala d’Or is home to some of the best beaches in Mallorca, so if you are planning a beach holiday, you’ll have a great selection to choose from in this part of Mallorca.

These are some of the best beaches that you won’t want to miss, both in and around Cala d’Or:

Cala Gran

This is the largest beach in the area with plenty of watersports activities if you fancy a fun day or a long stretch of beautiful white sand to relax on. It is a Blue Flag beach with lifeguards between June and September, while the blue waters tend to be calmer than many other areas, so it is perfect for safe swimming. There are also some lovely restaurants and beach bars around the beach for some local cuisine or some refreshments during your day out.

Cala Esmeralda

A much smaller beach, Cala Esmeralda has beautiful natural surroundings. It can get busy in the summer months, and it is a popular place for snorkelling due to the stunning, clear waters and lots of fascinating marine life. There is a great selection of beach bars around Cala Esmeralda, with amazing views across the sea.

Cala Ferrera

Another great beach to relax on or take part in fun watersports, Cala Ferrera is a Blue Flag beach with golden sands. You can hire paddle boards and kayaks, enjoy a swim in gentle waters and take in the stunning pine forest surroundings. While the beach is smaller than Cala Gran, Cala Ferrera is a popular choice for families looking for a fun-filled beach day with shower facilities available so you can clean up before enjoying a meal at a nearby restaurant with sea views.

Cala Mondragó

A bit further out of Cala d’Or, Cala Mondragó is a 30-minute drive that is worth the travel time. Situated within the Mondragó Natural Park, the beach is widely regarded as the best beach on the southeast coast of Mallorca for a peaceful day out. It is in a tranquil location with lots of walking trails leading to smaller coves and the calm waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling. If you are looking for a beach day that combines relaxation with exploring beautiful walking paths around the coast, Cala Mondragó is a great choice.

You can also reach S’Amarador beach by walking from Cala Mondragó, which is also a lovely place to spend time sunbathing or swimming.

Are there any quieter beaches near Cala d’Or?

These are some of the most popular beaches in the area but if you prefer a more secluded option, there are also some smaller beaches nearby including Cala Serena, Cala Sa Nau and Cala Petita. However, if you are visiting Mallorca in the busy summer months, these beaches will get busier as tourists and locals flock to enjoy a cool off on hot days.
