Where to Stay in Paris’s Latin Quarter: Hôtel Dame Des Arts

Long admired for its sweeping views across the Paris skyline, Hôtel Dame Des Arts has recently found itself in the spotlight for another reason. The hotel’s rooftop terrace made a memorable appearance in the latest season of Emily in Paris, with a fan-favourite scene featuring Alfie in Episode 10. The moment offered viewers a glimpse into what makes the hotel such a compelling reflection of the Latin Quarter’s creative spirit—and an ideal base for discovering one of Paris’s most storied neighbourhoods as spring arrives.

Set in the heart of the Left Bank’s Latin Quarter, the hotel places guests at the centre of a district long associated with artistic and intellectual life. In the years following World War II, nearby cinemas such as Le Champo and the Cinéma du Panthéon became key venues for the French Nouvelle Vague, helping define a movement that reshaped global cinema. That cinematic legacy informed the transformation of the building—originally constructed in the 1950s—by acclaimed designer Raphaël Navot when it reopened as Hôtel Dame Des Arts in 2023. His vision extends from the hotel’s signature scent to its intimate private cinema, which hosts curated screenings and can be reserved by guests for exclusive viewings.

“Raphaël Navot explored how the values of Nouvelle Vague cinema—freedom, authenticity, and natural storytelling—could be translated into the hotel experience,” explains Matthieu Bernard, General Manager of Hôtel Dame Des Arts. “The design allows spaces to flow organically, much like films of that era favoured emotion over rigid structure. Moving from the lobby to the garden, restaurant, rooftop, and guest rooms feels intuitive and lived-in, creating a sense of welcome the moment guests step inside from the Paris streets.”

One of Paris’s most walkable neighbourhoods, the Latin Quarter invites exploration at an unhurried pace. From the hotel, guests can easily wander past cafés, bookshops, galleries, and historic landmarks. Notre-Dame Cathedral, the legendary bookstore Shakespeare and Company, the Seine riverbanks, the Jardin du Luxembourg, and an array of celebrated restaurants are all just minutes away on foot.

As the days grow warmer, the hotel’s outdoor spaces become destinations in their own right. While the rooftop terrace evolves into one of the Left Bank’s most sought-after summer bars, the peaceful courtyard garden offers a quieter retreat—perfect for a morning espresso, a midday pause, or evening drinks and dinner beneath the open sky.
