Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma – Starhotels Collezione opens its doors after an intense and careful refurbishment

Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma – Starhotels Collezione reopens today, September 27th, following a major refurbishment that has revitalized its façade, rooms, suites, and common areas, including the bar and the renowned Café Romano restaurant. Thanks to the skilled work of Italian master craftsmen, the hotel now welcomes guests once again, blending its historical charm with modern luxury and comfort.

Originally built as a private residence for visitors of the nearby Palazzo Torlonia, the hotel has been a favorite of the international jet-set since its conversion in the mid-19th century. Its prime location, just steps from the iconic Spanish Steps and the glamorous Via Condotti, along with its inherent elegance, has made it a sought-after destination for decades.

The recent restoration, supervised by Italy’s Soprintendenza (the office for the Protection of Historic and Artistic assets), focused on preserving the hotel’s historic façade while upgrading all guestrooms, suites, and the Café Romano Restaurant. The hotel’s intimate lounges, which have long been a gathering place for artists, writers, and travelers from around the world, have also been restored to their former glory.

Led by Starhotels’ design team and coordinated by President and CEO Elisabetta Fabri, the project paid homage to the hotel’s rich heritage. The team carefully preserved architectural elements and restored valuable antique furniture, all while reimagining the spaces with a nod to the Grand Tour era, when the hotel first captivated travelers.

As part of the “La Grande Bellezza – The Dream Factory” initiative, which supports Italian craftsmanship, master artisans played a crucial role in the restoration, infusing the hotel with a renewed sense of grandeur and incorporating signature Made in Italy design elements.

The rooms and suites, now reduced from 84 to 80 to create more spacious interiors, each have their own unique character. The decor combines beautifully restored antique pieces with contemporary artisanal creations, adding to the hotel’s sense of authenticity and luxury.

The expanded Café Romano Restaurant has been transformed into a stylish Roman lounge, perfect for socializing, and will soon unveil an exciting new culinary experience. Additionally, Hotel d’Inghilterra plans to open an intimate spa and an exclusive rooftop terrace, offering a stunning view of the Eternal City – the perfect retreat for a luxurious stay in Rome.
