Bali Zoo does it again with another first in elephant experiences. Our new Elephant Mud Fun half-day package allows you to get down and dirty with our friendly Sumatran elephants while also discovering all about their behavior and lifestyle from our experienced mahout handlers. You’ll learn interesting facts such as, it is very common to find elephants basking in mud during the summer months because their high body temperature generates a great deal of metabolic heat. And with no sweat glands to relieve their internal thermometers they rely on mud to stay cool and protect themselves from the heat of the sun because even though their hide looks tough, elephants can actually get sunburned.
Your day will begin with a 7am hotel pick up and transport to Bali Zoo. Upon arriving at our Kampung Sumatra area you’ll receive a brief introduction to our program while enjoying a complimentary snack and coffee or tea. Then you’ll meet your English speaking mahout who will tell you about the gentle giants you’re about to meet and answer any questions you might have. They will also provide you with a selection of fruit for feeding and then at 9am you will accompany your mahout to the river bank where you’ll be introduced to our free roaming elephants and have a chance to play, feed, interact and take photos with them.
Next, it’s shirts off and bathers on for elephant spa time! With a generous mix of earth, water and fun and get covered in mud along with your new elephant friends who love getting dirty. Eventually, you’ll walk with the elephants down to the nearby River Wos to join them for a splash, bath and scrub down. Once the elephants are clean you’ll be able to take some final photos with them before parting ways with your new friends. Then you’ll return to the zoo for a shower and change followed by a relaxing lunch from 11am till noon.
After your meal you’ll be free to explore the rest of the zoo and our collection of over 300 rare and exotic animals including rare and endangered species such as the Komodo Dragon, Sumatran Tiger, Orangutan and Bali Starling. Admission also allows you to participate in our various ‘hands-on’ animal encounter sessions where you are allowed to feed, pet and take photos with a number of our zoo inhabitants.
Bali Zoo’s Elephant Mud Fun experience is designed to not only enlighten you on the behavior of these magnificent mammals, but also leave you fulfilled having participated in one of the most unique outdoor adventures you will have during your stay in Bali whether visiting as a couple or the entire family.
