Capella Bangkok and Capella Sydney, on the Best Hotels in Oceania – World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025

Capella Bangkok secures No. 3 position while Capella Sydney debuts at No. 12 and earns title of Best Hotel in Oceania in World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025

Capella Bangkok was named No.3 Best Hotel in The World, while Capella Sydney was named No.12 and honoured as the Best Hotel in Oceania in the global ranking of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025. The third edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels was announced at a captivating awards ceremony in London and features industry-defining hotels spanning six continents worldwide.

The evening’s awards ceremony once again united the global travel and hospitality community to celebrate the world’s best hotels. Held at London’s iconic Old Billingsgate on the banks of the River Thames, the event showcased exceptional hotel experiences that will inspire consumers, travellers and hoteliers around the globe.

Perched on the banks of the majestic Chao Phraya River, Capella Bangkok showcases panoramic river views and an intimate connection to the city’s storied waterfront. Inspired by the spirit of riverside living, the hotel’s 101 suites and villas, including 17 with private Jacuzzi plunge pools on their terrace, seamlessly blend timeless elegance with the soul of Bangkok through floor-to-ceiling windows and lush private gardens. Conceived as both a tranquil retreat and a gateway to the city’s treasures, each accommodation is thoughtfully designed as a serene pied-à-terre for travellers seeking relaxation and immersion in the authentic charm of Charoenkrung, Bangkok’s oldest road and a neighbourhood rich in culture, heritage, and creativity.

Capella Sydney has redefined the city’s luxury hospitality landscape by breathing new life into one of its most cherished heritage buildings. Set within the meticulously restored Department of Education building, a sandstone masterpiece in the heart of the city, the hotel seamlessly blends historical grandeur with contemporary elegance. Since its highly anticipated opening in March 2023, Capella Sydney has quickly established itself as a cultural and architectural icon.

The hotel features 192 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites, each with soaring ceilings, bespoke furnishings, and a curated collection of Australian artwork. Just steps from Sydney Harbour and the Harbour Bridge, Capella Sydney offers guests unparalleled access to the city’s architectural beauty and cultural energy.

Both properties exemplify Capella Hotels and Resorts’ signature approach to luxury hospitality, where guests are guided by dedicated Capella Culturists – personal concierge-butlers who craft bespoke experiences through the brand’s Capella Curates programming. This personalised service philosophy ensures each stay is tailored to individual preferences while celebrating the distinct character of Bangkok and Sydney.

Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, says: “We’re delighted to return to London for the third edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels. It’s an honour to gather so many leading voices in travel, hospitality and hotels – and to celebrate the very best. Our warmest congratulations go to every hotel on this year’s list, each of which has clearly made a lasting impression on our newly expanded Academy of travel experts. We hope 2025’s list sparks inspiration for travellers as they plan their next trip.”

“Capella Bangkok’s No.3 ranking is a testament to our team’s dedication to bespoke luxury through authentic connections to place and community. Meanwhile, Capella Sydney’s remarkable debut on this prestigious list and recognition as Best Hotel in Oceania – achieved within just two years of opening in 2023 – validates our approach to transforming heritage architecture with reverence, creating one-of-a-kind experiences as visionary curators of culture,” says Clive Edwards, Senior Vice-President, Operations, Capella Hotel Group.

The recognitions come as Capella Hotel Group continues its global expansion, with upcoming openings in Kyoto, Macau, Nanjing, Seoul and Florence set to further establish Capella Hotels and Resorts’ presence across key luxury markets, as well as new Patina Hotels & Resorts openings in Tianjin and Sanya, China.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025 was revealed as part of a live countdown from No.50 to No.1. The ranking is complemented by a host of special awards alongside the first ever 51-100 list and reflects the very best travel experiences around the globe, collated from the votes of 800 anonymous experts.
