A new kind of luxury is taking shape this year – time together, shared properly. This summer, micro cruise specialist Secret Atlas is redefining the multigenerational family holiday with the launch of its Private Expeditions to the Arctic designed entirely around transformative experiences with the people who matter most.
Created for multigenerational families in need of a ship entirely to themselves, Secret Atlas Private Expeditions offer a more personal way to explore Svalbard, Greenland and Northern Norway. Far from the rush of mainstream travel, these bespoke journeys combine privacy, flexibility and meaningful family time in one of the most extraordinary places on Earth.
Aboard one of Secret Atlas’ small expedition vessels, families enjoy exclusive use of the ship and the freedom to shape each day around their own pace, interests and rhythms. With just 12 guests onboard, these expeditions make the most of time at sea and on shore, creating a trip that balances educational opportunities with engaging activities. Whether it’s learning in-the-field about different types of ice features, tracing the paths of legendary polar explorers or enjoying an Arctic wildlife safari, the experience offers a more immersive alternative to larger ships.
Available from May to September, families can set sail to Svalbard, Greenland and Northern Norway on one of four expedition-style ships with Secret Atlas. Featuring spacious en-suite cabins, chef-prepared meals and large open lounge areas, families with children ranging from young teens upwards can encounter cathedral-sized icebergs, polar bears, walruses, and local cultures all while travelling in the comfort of a private expedition vessel.
For families who prefer to join a scheduled departure, Secret Atlas also offers family-friendly Expedition Micro Cruises. These small-group voyages bring a more educational dimension to Arctic travel, giving children and teenagers the chance to learn directly from expert guides about wildlife, glaciers, sea ice, polar history and local culture. It is a form of travel that combines excitement with discovery, helping younger explorers engage more deeply with the natural world.
