Revealed: The Caribbean’s Safest Honeymoon Islands

A new study has revealed that the Caribbean’s safest honeymoon destinations aren’t the most popular, with quieter, less crowded islands consistently ranking higher for overall “peace of mind.”

The Caribbean Honeymoon Safety Index 2026 ranks 27 destinations using a proprietary Peace-of-Mind Score, designed specifically for couples. Unlike traditional safety rankings, the index considers not just crime, but the full honeymoon experience, including resort infrastructure, crowd pressure, medical access and hurricane risk.

Aruba Retains Top Spot as Safest Caribbean Destination for 2026

Aruba ranks as the safest Caribbean destination in 2026, with a score of 8.50, maintaining its position at the top of the index thanks to consistently strong performance across travel advisory levels, crime rates, healthcare access and minimal hurricane exposure.

It is followed by:

  • Barbados (#2, 8.21) – strong overall safety profile with reliable healthcare and low advisory risk
  • Curaçao (#3, 7.62) – stable safety environment and low hurricane exposure
  • Antigua & Barbuda (#4, 7.39) – consistent performance across key safety indicators
  • Dominican Republic (#5, 7.28) – rising rapidly due to improving crime trends and tourism investment

Notably, many of the highest-ranking destinations, including Barbados, Curaçao, Antigua and Jamaica, are home to some of the Caribbean’s most established all-inclusive resort networks, which can play a significant role in overall traveller safety and experience.

A Standout Trend: Some Destinations Are Improving Fast

While Aruba and Barbados continue to lead overall, the most notable story in the data is the pace of change across several destinations.

Jamaica records the biggest improvement, increasing its score from 5.15 to 6.36, reflecting significant progress in crime reduction and overall safety indicators.

Despite historically lower safety scores, destinations like Jamaica remain among the Caribbean’s most popular for couples, supported by well-developed resort infrastructure and established tourism zones.

These gains suggest that safety conditions in the Caribbean are evolving quickly, with some destinations closing the gap on long-established leaders.

Key Findings from the 2026 Index

1. Established leaders remain stable at the top

Destinations like Aruba and Barbados continue to rank highly year-on-year, reflecting consistently strong safety fundamentals across multiple indicators.

2. The biggest story is improvement, not just rankings

Several destinations are seeing meaningful upward movement, particularly Jamaica and the Dominican Republic, showing that safety trends in the region are actively improving rather than remaining static.

3. Safety varies more by trend than reputation

While some destinations maintain strong reputations, the data shows that recent improvements and declines can shift the landscape quickly, reinforcing the importance of up-to-date information when planning travel.

4. Established resort destinations remain highly viable

Even in locations where national safety indicators are mixed, well-developed resort areas continue to provide controlled, low-risk environments for travellers, particularly in destinations with mature tourism industries such as Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Antigua.

Why “Safe” Means Something Different for Honeymooners

The study highlights that traditional safety metrics don’t tell the full story for couples.

While separate analysis using government data shows destinations like Aruba and Curaçao perform strongly on crime, healthcare and travel advisories , the honeymoon-focused index reveals that:

  • Crowd levels
  • Resort infrastructure
  • And ease of relaxing

…can be just as important as crime statistics when choosing a destination.

Biggest Movers in Caribbean Safety

The 2026 data highlights several standout shifts:

  • Jamaica (+1.21) – the largest improvement in the index, driven by a significant reduction in violent crime
  • Dominican Republic (+0.50) – continued upward trend supported by tourism investment and improving safety indicators
  • The Bahamas (+0.43) – moderate improvement reflecting stronger recent performance

In contrast:

  • Grenada (-1.41) sees the most notable decline, reflecting changes in underlying safety indicators rather than a single factor

These movements underline that Caribbean safety is dynamic, with conditions changing meaningfully year-to-year.

A spokesperson from Honeymoon Always said:

“The biggest misconception is that ‘safe’ means the same thing for every traveller.

For honeymooners, it’s not just about crime rates: it’s about how easy it is to switch off, feel comfortable, and avoid stress altogether.

That’s why quieter islands and well-designed resort environments often outperform more popular destinations in our data.”

Methodology (Summary)

The index uses a weighted scoring system across six categories:

  • Honeymoon infrastructure (30%)
  • Crime & safety (20%)
  • Medical access (15%)
  • Tourism density & crowd pressure (20%)
  • Hurricane & disruption risk (10%)
  • Regional proximity factors (5%)

Each destination receives a final score out of 10 based on the latest available global data.
