One of Seminyak’s best-known beachfront settings has entered a new era. W Bali – Seminyak has opened Alunê, an oceanfront beach club occupying the former home of Woobar and designed around the changing light, sound and social energy of Bali’s southwest coast.
The new venue combines all-day dining, cocktails, music and multiple styles of oceanfront seating, including private pool cabanas with Jacuzzis. Alongside it, the resort has introduced Club Lacoste, a wellness and social concept centered on padel. Inspired by Waves, Music and Moonlight
Alunê takes its name from two sources. The Indonesian word alunan refers to the continuous rhythm of waves or the flow of sound and melody, while lune is the French word for moon. The combination reflects a concept shaped by the movement of the ocean, Bali’s social character and the transition from daylight to night.
Rather than treating the beach as a backdrop, design studio WELD used it as the organizing principle for the space. Seminyak’s southwest-facing coast gives the club a direct view of the sun descending over the Indian Ocean. Colors, textures and lighting throughout Alunê echo that daily progression.
The result is a venue intended to change in mood as the day unfolds. Bright coastal afternoons gradually give way to warm evening tones, live music and a more energetic social atmosphere after dusk.
A Bar Designed Around the Sunset
The connection to golden hour is particularly visible at Alunê’s indoor bar. Its backdrop combines hand-cut mosaic tiles with backlit orange glass panels, creating an amber glow that mirrors the colors of the setting sun.
A hand-carved and hand-painted timber counter moves between deep ocean blue and burnt orange, evoking both water and sky. Rosso Alicante marble, green quartzite and gray teak continue the natural palette, while custom stools repeat the counter’s fluid, wave-inspired forms.
This attention to detail allows the indoor space to retain a sense of the beach even when guests are not facing the water. It also gives Alunê a visual identity distinct from the many open-air venues lining Seminyak Beach.
Coastal Dining With a More Refined Edge
Alunê’s menu moves beyond the familiar beach-club formula with dishes that emphasize fresh seafood, premium ingredients and polished presentation.
The lobster roll pairs lobster and spring onion with ikura in a brioche bun. A catch-of-the-day sashimi changes according to the freshest local fish available and is served with ponzu, chili oil and lime. Both dishes maintain the relaxed appeal of beachfront dining while introducing a more chef-driven approach.
For a lighter option, the Signature Frozen Bowls use fruit and superfoods to create colors that reflect the venue’s design. Each bowl has a different flavor profile and stated wellness focus.
Blue Tide combines blue spirulina, coconut milk, coconut yogurt and lime, while Golden Hour brings together mango, pineapple, ginger, turmeric and whey protein. Green Garden features matcha, spinach, avocado and mint; Purple Power blends açaí, dragon fruit, banana and honey; and Ruby Bloom combines strawberry, beetroot, raspberry and collagen.
Cocktails and a Nightly Sunset Ritual
As afternoon turns to evening, Alunê shifts into its Sunset Ritual, a golden-hour program built around cocktails, live sound and the changing light over the ocean.
The beverage menu includes the Ivory Tide, a creamy signature drink made with vodka, almond milk cordial, orgeat, elderflower and cream. The Solaris Spritz uses pomelo-and-thyme-infused gin with elderflower, rosso vermouth, cranberry, lime and rose water, while the Soft Current combines vodka, lychee, lime, mint, hibiscus and beetroot foam.
Guests looking for alcohol-free choices can select from six wellness-inspired mocktails named Calm, Balance, Vitality, Ease, Immunity and Glow. Ingredients such as pandan, chamomile, galangal and holy basil give the drinks their own identity rather than positioning them simply as nonalcoholic versions of cocktails.
Oceanfront Seating for Different Moods
Alunê has been arranged to accommodate both sociable afternoons and quieter retreats. Open areas close to the water place guests near the music and activity, while more secluded seating offers a greater sense of privacy.
