If you’re looking for a guidebook to get the most out of your Las Vegas experience and a lot of fun close to the MGM Grand, look no further.
Vegas Top Tips To Get You Started
- Bear in mind that while all indoor locations have air conditioning, Las Vegas is a desert location. Be sure to stock up on sunblock and carry a water bottle everywhere – stay protected and hydrated.
- Know where you are at all times. Vegas is divided into two main areas. First is “the Strip,” a very tourist-saturated area where most of the iconic Vegas locations can be found. It’s a 4.2-mile-long stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard. The second is “Downtown” or “Old Vegas,” which is north of the strip. This was the original gambling district.
- Rent a car rather than take taxis or public transport. You’ll have constant access to air conditioning and be able to set your own schedule without waiting around for anyone else.
The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino
The MGM is a Las Vegas landmark and one of the best-known casinos on the planet. If you want to experience Vegas on its terms, it’s the only choice for a luxurious, safe, and inclusive place to stay.
There are more than just casino games at this palace of a hotel and casino – though they are an excellent benefit, and you’ll find some of the best here. There are rooms for every kind of visitor: dog-friendly rooms for those traveling with a furry friend, suites for those who like a little room to breathe, and sky lofts (with a personal butler) at the height of luxury.
If you get snacky in the middle of the night or want to have a special occasion dinner, you can handle it without ever leaving the venue. Wolfgang Puck even has his grill restaurant on the premises, and there’s a hotel buffet and takeout options for every palette.
Entertainment is the name of the game at the MGM. If you’re over 21, you can take a chance with Lady Luck at the casino. There is a comedy club and residencies by performers like David Copperfield, Cirque Du Soleil, and Lady Gaga. There’s a pool complex for getting your laps in or tan on, a spa and salon for wellness and beauty, and a few in-house nightclubs to flaunt your new look.
Experience Las Vegas
If you’re tempted to venture out of the comfy confines of your hotel, there’s a lot to see and do in Las Vegas. Whatever your persuasion, Vegas has an exciting experience you can’t miss. There’s excellent cuisine for the foodie, great cultural landmarks for the traveling historian, and delightful outdoor recreation for the family vacation.
Outdoor Activities
Red Rock Canyon
Nevada offers incredible natural beauty if you want to experience it. Get a dose of the natural sights when you visit Red Rock Canyon. Nevada’s first National Conservation area is less than a half-hour drive from the city. It offers excellent climbing at several experience levels and incredible day hikes through the terracotta hills. If you prefer to stay out of the sun, visit Ice Box Canyon and see the seasonal waterfalls while walking in the shade.
Valley of Fire State Park
An hour’s drive out of Las Vegas will get you to the largest State Park in the state. The same red sandstone can be seen in the Valley Of Fire as at Red Rock Canyon, but the valley has the added benefit of stunning forests. Here, you can hike to Elephant Rock and take in scenery filled with 2000-year-old petroglyphs and petrified trees. The Fire Wave Trail will lead you to a stunning rock formation that folds in reds, yellows, pinks, and oranges. It is so beautiful, but it almost doesn’t look real.
Family Fun
Hershey’s Chocolate World
If you have the kids in tow, there’s one activity that you simply can’t miss: a trip to Hershey’s Chocolate World. Here, you can customize your unique Hershey bar and check out the reproduction of the Statue of Liberty made entirely from chocolate. If your kids love laying on the drama, they can even star in their own personal Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercial and indulge in other interactive experiences.
Shark Reef Aquarium
Just down the road from the MGM Grand, you’ll find an underwater oasis in the desert at Mandalay Bay. Shark Reef Aquarium is for kids of all ages and adults. Take the family on an incredible ocean tour by visiting the 14 different shark habitats. Don’t forget to stop off and see the underwater shipwreck! There is a touch pool for little ones who want to get up close and personal with sea life, too. Make memories together here that will last a lifetime.
