Escape and Imbibe on a Cornish Gin Odyssey This Summer

Gin lovers are in for a treat this summer at Talland Bay Hotel in south Cornwall, which is celebrating the popular spirit with a thirst-quenching twist on its gourmet breaks:

To mark the launch of Cornwall’s first “plough to bottle” gin distillery, Colwith Farm Distillery near Fowey, the luxury hotel – which boasts over eighty gins behind the bar – is introducing a Cornish Gin Odyssey. Guaranteed to tickle the taste buds of all ginthusiasts, the package includes a complimentary gin and tonic to ease into the break and a tour of the new distillery.

Guests can enjoy their tipple on the terrace, with views out over the sub-tropical gardens to the sea, before indulging in the finest, freshest Cornish fare cooked up by head chef Nick Hawke in the 2AA Rosette fine-dining Terrace restaurant; then being lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves and the breeze in the pine trees. The next day begins with a delicious breakfast, then a trip to Colwith Farm Distillery for a tour and tasting.

A Cornish Gin Odyssey break at Talland Bay Hotel costs from £330 per person (July-September) and includes:

  • Two nights in a classic room
  • Breakfast each day
  • Three-course dinner in the hotel’s 2AA Rosette fine-dining Terrace restaurant both nights
  • A complimentary gin and tonic on the first night, featuring the ‘gin of the day’
  • A tour and tasting at Colwith Farm Distillery (available Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays)

Taxis can be arranged on request.

Overseen by fifth-generation farmer, Steve Dustow, Colwith Farm Distillery is the first in Cornwall to bring the whole process under one roof. Visitors are taken through the process, where King Edward potatoes grown on the family farm are mashed, fermented and distilled to create Aval Dor Vodka and Stafford’s Gin, and then invited to sample the wares in the bar.

Named the Best Restaurant in the South West in the Taste of the West Champions Awards 2017, Talland Bay Hotel will be introducing its own blend of gin later this year, created by Steve at Colwith Farm.
