A new Icelandic wellness travel experience has launched this week combining geothermal rejuvenation and getting immersed in nature through an up close whale watching experience to absorb the power of Iceland’s natural wonders.
The four-day Waterfalls, Glaciers and Spa Stay available from June to September, has been created by specialist travel company Off the Map Travel to offer guests the chance to hit the reset button and enjoy total relaxation and mindful travel surrounded by dramatic landscapes, powerful waterfalls, and awe-inspiring glaciers.
“We have noticed a huge rise in demand for wellness holidays,” Jonny Cooper, founder of Off the Map Travel, said.
“The need to switch off from hectic everyday life and reconnect with both themselves and nature in peaceful locations, as well as indulge in spa treatments is so important to the modern traveler that we created this wellbeing focused experience that will rejuvenate the body and mind.”
From the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, the journey progresses to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula – a portal into Viking history lined with dramatic landscapes including glaciers, volcanoes, beaches and caves.
The next two days are dedicated to soaking up the peninsula’s beauty, from charming fishing villages like Arnarstapi to the majestic Snæfellsjökull National Park, home to the 1,446 metres (4,744 feet) tall Snæfellsjökull glacier and volcano, both of which have inspired writers and artists over the centuries due to their splendour.
Throughout the trip guests will have use of an electric car to travel between waterfalls, glaciers and volcanic rock; relax in hot and cold tubs, geothermal spas and saunas; eat locally sourced ingredients; stay in a charming retreat nestled amidst the peninsula’s breathtaking scenery; go on a whale watching excursion to witness the majestic creatures in their natural habitat, breaching the clear water in search of fish, and lobtailing their tail flukes within metres of your boat.
“The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is full of mystical allure with dramatic coastal cliffs, unique basalt rock formations, and vibrant seabird colonies,” Cooper added.
“It’s a wellness paradise with so much to discover. This adventure brings together experiences and accommodation designed to switch off from the noise of a busy life; to reflect and be mindful in the dramatic landscapes and natural wonders of Iceland; and rejuvenate your body with fresh local food and geothermal treatments.
“Everything has been chosen to ensure guests leave feeling refreshed and full of wonder at the incredible sights of this epic part of Iceland.”
The four-day, seven-night Waterfalls, Glaciers and Spa Stay itinerary costs from $7,418 per person, on a full board basis, based on two people traveling, not including flights.
This includes one night’s hotel accommodation at Fosshotel Reykholt, two night’s accommodation at Hotel Búðir, private transfers, all activities and all meals. Flights are additional.
