This Autumn, Skye’s Kinloch Lodge Hotel – former hunting lodge of the Macdonald clan dating back to 1640 – launches an exciting new experience designed for guests seeking deeper, more immersive connections with the Isle of Skye’s wild landscapes.
In partnership with celebrated photographer Andrew Tobin, author of the Skye at Night, the Skye Photography Retreat invites guests to explore Skye’s atmospheric beauty through a bespoke, one-to-one photographic tutorial.
Blending Kinloch’s famous hospitality with artistic exploration, the retreat pairs Kinloch Lodge’s historic charm, roaring fires, delicious food with Tobin’s intimate knowledge of the island. Guests will be guided to off-the-beaten-path locations—far beyond the typical Instagram hotspots—capturing haunting ruins to mirror-like lochs under star-drenched skies. Each itinerary is tailored to the client’s interests, technical ability, the weather or position of the Milky Way!
The new experience coincides with the launch of Tobin’s latest book, Glas (Scottish Gaelic for “grey”)—a striking black-and-white homage to the Isle of Skye, combining over 190 monochrome images with the poetry of renowned Gaelic writer Rody Gorman. Seventeen years in the making, Glas reveals the island’s layered moods and elusive beauty, available exclusively at Kinloch Lodge.
“This collaboration with Kinloch Lodge allows guests to experience the island through a quieter lens. It’s not about chasing trophies—it’s about immersion, creativity, and connection.” Andrew Tobin
