Must-Visit Places in Europe and Africa

Traveling is one of the greatest experiences a person can have. It changes you, helps you deal with stress, and impacts your mental well-being, especially if you are not used to going out of your comfort zone. It’s sometimes nice to get disconnected from your daily life and learn to understand different cultures. Meeting new people and trying some exotic food is just part of the adventure. If you are interested in traveling and creating lifetime memories, check out this list of beautiful places in Europe and Africa you simply must visit.

Corfu, Greece

Corfu or Kerkyra is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea. It’s known for lovely nature, beautiful sea and beaches, stunning architecture and rich history.

This island attracts tourists every summer, and it is a favorite destination for many. It offers something for everybody, whether you prefer exploring historical and religious monuments, enjoying nature, or socializing with the locals. Corfu Town is wonderful for sightseeing. You can learn about many monuments (e.g., Old Fortress, New Fortress, Church of Saint Spyridon). Don’t miss the chapel of Panagia Vlacherna or the quarter of Kanoni, which has a beautiful view of Mouse Island.

When you are visiting Corfu, try renting a car or a scooter to explore the island. Don’t miss Achilleion Palace or the Monastery of Paleokastritsa. To prepare for traveling across the island, make sure you download or print a detailed Europe Africa world map and make a plan, so you can manage to visit every place you intend to. Include trips to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and enjoy clean water and the smells of sea and pine trees. Famous beaches like Paleokastritsa, Rovinia, or Barbati are something you shouldn’t miss.

Corfu is also famous for its delicious food and traditional cuisine. Make sure you try Sofrito, which is considered the dish of the island, Pastrokio eggplants, Pastisada, and a greek salad, of course.

Egypt

Magnificent monuments, mighty river Nile, beguiling desert, pyramids, and welcoming people-you can find all of it in Egypt.

Cairo is the capital of Egypt, and it is one of the Islamic world’s greatest cities. It is huge, beautiful, and full of vigor. Here is a list of places you shouldn’t miss while staying in Cairo:

  • The Egyptian Museum
  • Pyramids of Giza
  • Al-Azhar Mosque
  • Old Cairo
  • Khan el-Khalili (Souq Quarter)
  • The Citadel
  • Sultan Hassan Mosque
  • Museum of Islamic art
  • Bab Zuweila
  • Al-Azhar Park
  • Manyal Palace

But Cairo isn’t the only interesting place in Egypt. We recommend you start with the capital and then explore the pyramids, tombs, Pharaonic temples, and more. The Valley of the Kings in Luxor, famous for the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, is one of the most popular archeological locations in the world. Don’t forget about the Nile or many beautiful beaches on the Red Sea coast. You can spend a few days in one of the breathtaking resorts and relax while enjoying Egypt’s staple dishes (Aish merahrah, Slow-roast meats, or Babaganoush).

Uganda

Uganda is a real treat when it comes to travel, especially for adventurers and safari-lovers. It’s known for beautiful national parks that are home to half of the world’s mountain gorillas, along with other monkeys (rare golden monkeys, chimpanzees), classic safari animals (elephants, hippos, leopards, lions, etc.), and over a thousand species of birds. This country is full of forests, wetlands, and mountains. “Mountains of the Moon” include one of Africa’s highest peaks. You can also visit the shores of Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa.

It’s hard not to fall in love with their culture, as well. Enjoy singing and dancing, listen to the locals play adungu, or explore the rich tradition of theatre (make sure you visit the National Theatre in Kampala). You can run across a variety of festivals and ritual celebrations.

If you are more interested in exploring nature, you mustn’t miss Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The waters of Lake Victoria surround it, and it is home to almost 50 rescued chimps. Entebbe Botanic Gardens and Itanda Falls are special treats for nature-lovers, and they will leave you breathless.

If you would like to visit a zoo, check out The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre. It is located in Entebbe and cares for the rescued animals, often victims of illegal trade. Animals are not used for entertainment but to raise awareness and save wildlife.

Finally, you can always book a gorilla tour or a safari to enjoy wildlife, watch rhinos, elephants, lions, track mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, and learn about the birds. Uganda is very special, and we guarantee you will never forget this experience.
