Querencia – an unparalleled, private golf club and community in Los Cabos – is now owned by an entity controlled by Bonnie and Tom McCloskey of Aspen, Colorado, longtime Querencia CEO Jorge Carrera and Querencia resident Willy Jordan.
The new principals acquired the award-winning club and real estate assets from Charles Morgan, Rodger Kline and James Womble, and are already forging a bold vision and ambitious growth plans. The previous owners purchased Querencia in 2004 with the goal of creating “the private side of Los Cabos” exclusive to residents and members. Since then, Querencia solidified its standing as one of the most sought-after coastal communities for primary and vacation homeowners.
“Our vision is to evolve Querencia into an even more vibrant family-oriented private community while preserving its outstanding golf facility, as well as its exclusivity and attention to refinement,” said Tom McCloskey. “We thank Charles, Rodger and Jim for the opportunity to build on what they started.”
The McCloskey family has excelled in real estate development and community building, and have been members and property owners at Querencia since 2010. Jordan and his wife, Cherie, are also resident-members. Appointed Querencia CEO in 2004, Carrera and his team have significantly grown both real estate and membership sales, as well as amenity usage and financial strength.
The new ownership’s plans include substantial investments to enhance Querencia’s real estate offerings, the Q Ocean Club, the Tom Fazio-designed golf course and clubhouse (major renovation).
“We are ecstatic for Querencia residents, members and future homeowners,” says Carrera. “It is the realization of a dream to bring like-minded principals together to take an already exclusive luxury lifestyle like none other in Los Cabos to the next level.”
A celebration to welcome the new owners and to present plans for the Querencia transformation is in the planning stages.
The community opened in 2000 and is set atop the highest point in San Jose del Cabo. Querencia features panoramas of the surrounding desert and sparkling Sea of Cortez. The 1,800-acre gated enclave’s wide assortment of residences consist of custom ocean- and golf course-view homes, spacious condos and golf villas from $750,000 to more than $12 million. Querencia is 15 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport and many U.S. cities are within a two-hour flight.
Later in 2017, Querencia plans to debut its exclusive Q Ocean Club with resort-caliber amenities and a wide spectrum of luxuries. A restaurant will showcase a coastally-inspired menu, breathtaking ocean views from inside, and a sun-drenched terrace with fire pit for open-air dining. The Q Ocean Club will also provide residents with water sports and activities, including surfing, stand-up paddle boarding and snorkeling just beyond undisturbed beaches along the Sea of Cortez.
At the heart of Querencia is “The Club” and its Tom Fazio-designed golf course rated among Mexico’s best by Golf Digest, GOLF Magazine and Golfweek. The layout spans 300 acres, winds through deep arroyos and climbs to cool, arid plateaus with endless vistas. The 58,000-square-foot clubhouse pampers members with al fresco and fine dining, sumptuous pools, a complete fitness center, ultra-soothing spa, beauty salon, barber shop and full-service concierge. Families delight in the innovative Kid’s Club and Qube, a fun-filled space for teens with an arcade and video room. Other amenities include a yoga pavilion, tennis courts, hiking trails and mountain biking trails.
