Scotland’s legendary golf landscape has a compelling new addition. Cabot has officially opened Old Petty, the highly anticipated second course at Cabot Highlands, further elevating the destination as one of the most exciting luxury golf escapes in the world.

Set in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, Old Petty joins the acclaimed Castle Stuart Golf Links — already recognized as one of the world’s top 100 golf courses — and introduces a fresh experience that blends historic surroundings, dramatic coastal scenery, and classic links-style play.

Designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Doak alongside lead associate Clyde Johnson, the new 18-hole course embraces a traditional walking-only format inspired by how golf was played more than 200 years ago. The routing winds through rugged Highland terrain, tracing a tidal estuary and offering sweeping views of the Moray Firth.

What makes Old Petty particularly memorable is how deeply it connects golfers to the region’s history. Players will move alongside the 400-year-old Castle Stuart, pass a restored bothy near the fifth green, and play beside Old Petty Church, which dates back to 1839. Standout moments include breathtaking coastal views at the 10th hole, a dramatic return to the shoreline on the 14th, and a challenging short par-three on the 17th. The course’s crossing fairways on the opening and closing holes add an unexpected strategic twist.

For travelers planning a golf getaway to Scotland, the location is another major draw. Cabot Highlands sits just five minutes from Inverness Airport and only 10 minutes from Inverness, making it an ideal base for exploring some of the country’s most iconic courses, including Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Nairn Golf Club, Brora Golf Club, and Skibo Castle.

Beyond golf, the Scottish Highlands offer plenty of reasons to extend your stay. Explore the historic streets of Inverness, visit nearby whisky distilleries, discover the vast wilderness of Flow Country — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — or take a trip to Urquhart Castle and the legendary waters of Loch Ness. Hiking, cycling, fishing, horseback riding, and falconry experiences also make the region appealing beyond the fairways.

The opening of Old Petty signals another major milestone for Cabot, whose growing portfolio includes destinations such as Cabot Cape Breton, Cabot Saint Lucia, Cabot Revelstoke, Cabot Citrus FarmsCabot Bordeaux, and Lofoten Links.

For golfers seeking a destination that combines championship-caliber play with rich history and cinematic Highland scenery, Old Petty may quickly earn a place on the bucket list.
