Sandos Hotels & Resorts is proud to announce the completion of 336 nature-inspired and family-focused rooms at its Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. The renovated rooms and suites have been integrated into the property’s signature Eco Collection, which offers three categories of jungle-inspired accommodation options. Nestled amidst the Riviera Maya’s lush coastal landscape, the innovative 941-key property invites guests to explore the region’s mesmerizing flora and fauna from the comfort of its latest ecology-conscious suites, specifically designed with families and the environment in mind. Additionally, as part of this phase of the renovation, two reimagined culinary concepts have been introduced at the Playa del Carmen all-inclusive.
“We have always taken great pride in providing travelers with unique opportunities to experience our region’s rich culture and history while keeping our local ecosystems at the forefront to try our best to preserve the destination for future generations,” said Miguel Angel Guardado, General Manager of Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. “The new Eco Suites are truly the culmination of this mission – perfectly positioned alongside our onsite cenotes and mangrove river, created to comfortably accommodate families and groups of all shapes and sizes in rooms that harness a bit of the Mayan junglas’ wild beauty.”
One of a select number of eco-tourism all-inclusive hotels in Mexico, this is the latest accomplishment in a $20 million phased renovation and expansion project at Sandos Caracol. The Eco Suites were developed by Sandos’ architectural team, inspired by the vibrant estate on which the resort is set. Strategically located near Caracol’s ancient freshwater sinkhole and natural waterways, the suites allow travelers to become neighbors to the resort’s colony of friendly spider monkeys, wild coatis, curious raccoons and exotic resident birds. Furthermore, the Eco Collection was built specifically in the family-focused section of the resort, providing guests with maximum access to the property’s natural amenities and maintaining close proximity to its kid-centric pools and 29-slide water park.
Seamlessly blending their outdoor surroundings into their interiors, all of the suites have been outfitted with kid-friendly dark wood furnishings and bunk beds, timber accents & decor, and forest-influenced finishes. Varying in sizes and arrangements, the rainforest contemporary collection encompasses three different categories divided into entry-level Eco Family Superior rooms, spacious Eco Family Suites and impressive Eco Family Penthouses, each of which are differentiated as follows:
- Eco Family Superior: The perfect option for adventurers with young children, the Eco Family Superior accommodations are outfitted with a king-size bed and lofted twin bunk beds, designed to fit comfortably in one room. The new room expansion has added 326 new rooms to this category.
- Eco Family Suites: A two-room version of the Superior, the Family Suite offers the same sleeping configuration but with added privacy and square footage, as it is separated into a master room with an ensuite family space for the bunks. Resolving all the inconveniences associated with a traditional hotel room stay with kids, the Eco Family Suite also offers an oversized bathroom, complete with two showers, two toilets and twin sinks. Perhaps best of all, the Family Suites feature private, crystal water plunge pools on beautiful jungle-view balconies.
- Eco Family Penthouses: The largest room in the Eco Collection, the Penthouse is the ultimate family accommodation, especially for parents who want to truly relax throughout their stay. They are distinguished for their configuration thanks to their grand master king-bed room in addition to a separate pull-out couch living room that doubles as a kids suite, outfitted with a queen-sized bunk bed and a house-shaped blackboard for scribbles and drawing. The expansive suite also offers two full bathrooms for added independence within one seamless hotel room, with the primary showcasing his-and-her showers and vanities. The renovation project completed 10 new penthouses, providing guests with 44 total available rooms in this ultimate category. Per the resort’s standard amenities, guests will also find WiFi access, LED flatscreens, a Bluetooth music system and 24-hour room service in every Eco Suite room.
Along with the rest of the hotel, the new Eco Suites depend on sustainable energy sources, such as solar for power, and get their water from sophisticated onsite treatment plants to reduce the property’s carbon footprint and minimize its impact on the environment in a tangible way. Showing its commitment to all living beings, the resort has designated on-site land to create its own protected biosphere reserve, where it provides a home to endemic species and previously abused and neglected animals that it has rescued, keeping them safe from poachers and exploitation and aiding with repopulation initiatives. Sandos Caracol is also dedicated to education through tourism and consistently utilizes the resort as a resource to spread awareness about the region’s indigenous cultures and populations, its endangered wildlife and unique ecosystems. For this reason, the resort is constantly developing engaging “All Nature” programming for guests that ranges from reforestation tree-planting initiatives to rescue animal caretaking.
In addition to the room count expansion, Sandos Caracol has unveiled a new look for its restaurant, Riviera– a bohemian French gastro-concept with lovely beachfront views and a new seafood-inspired menu. The resort is also excited to announce the return of its iconic onsite food truck, Santo Taco, which showcases incredible authentic Mexican street food, vibrantly flavored tacos and vegetarian bites so outstanding that guests forget they skipped the animal protein.
