Silver Star is set to host an unforgettable winter lineup, headlined by the 41st annual Over the Hill Downhill (OTH), Canada’s longest-standing recreational downhill race. Alongside this iconic event, guests can enjoy a host of activities this winter, including ski-in/ski-out afternoon tea, the Silver Star Winter Music Series, a Shania Twain-inspired drag show, and the Sovereign2SilverStar Ski Marathon, making Silver Star the ultimate winter destination that offers something for everyone.
Over the Hill Downhill: A Legacy of Alpine Excellence
The Over the Hill Downhill, taking place from January 31 to February 2, 2025, has become a cornerstone of Canadian alpine culture, offering participants a rare opportunity to test their skills on professionally designed courses while learning from an elite roster of coaches. True to its name, the event features teams with a combined minimum age of 65, all the way up to 225 years – and beyond! Individual team members have ranged from as young as 10 years old to well into their golden years, celebrating a multigenerational spirit of competition.
This year’s coaches include Herwig Demschar, a former coach of the Austrian National Ski Team and current General Manager of Silver Star Mountain Resort; Don Lyon, a veteran of Canadian ski coaching and leadership; Rob Boyd, a three-time World Cup winner, celebrated Canadian Alpine Ski Team member and coach; and Gord Brown, a long-time course setter and Canadian National Team coach dedicated to the success of the OTH Downhill.
Ski-In/Ski-Out Afternoon Tea
Visitors to Silver Star can now enjoy the new ski-in/ski-out Afternoon Tea at D’Argento Restaurant, where they can retreat to a cozy setting with fine teas, handmade pastries, and breathtaking views of the snow-covered peaks. This elegant experience includes freshly brewed teas, handmade sandwiches, scones, and pastries, with wine, mimosas, and aperitifs available for an additional charge.
Silver Star Winter Music Series
The Silver Star Winter Music Series brings live performances to the heart of the village every second Sunday throughout the ski season.
