The collection launches September 24, 2026, with hooded jackets, a parka, a jacket and a vest among the styles highlighted by the brand. Smartwool is also introducing its Merino-based Cabin Mule Slipper for the hours after the boots come off.
Merino Meets Down
Down has long been a go-to insulator for its warmth. Smartwool says Winterloft combines Merino wool with insulation containing 80% recycled down to create pieces that feel more adaptable as conditions and activity levels change. The brand positions the Merino component as a way to support breathability and comfort during movement and in damp weather.
For travelers, that versatility is the central appeal. A jacket that works on a city break, a weekend in the mountains and the journey between them earns its space in a suitcase. Winterloft is presented as an outer layer for that kind of mixed itinerary, with styles that can move from a morning outdoors to dinner in town without requiring an entire change of clothes.
The announced lineup includes men’s and women’s Winterloft Hooded Jackets, a women’s Winterloft Parka, and men’s Jacket and Vest styles. Among the colors previewed are Mocha and Black for women, plus Dusty Teal, Winter Moss and Deep Navy for men. Travelers planning a snowy getaway can pair an insulating outer layer with the Merino base layers already familiar to Smartwool fans.
As with any insulated garment, the right choice depends on your plans. A vest can add warmth while leaving your arms free for active days; a hooded jacket offers more coverage for changing weather; and a parka may suit travelers who expect longer stretches in the cold. Smartwool has not supplied independent performance testing with the release, so shoppers should check each garment’s full specifications and care instructions when the collection goes live.
A Slipper for After the Adventure
The Cabin Mule Slipper rounds out the launch with a different sort of winter essential. Made with Merino and a durable outsole, it is designed for indoor and outdoor wear. Its collapsible heel lets it shift between a traditional slipper and a mule, a useful detail when you are stepping out of a hotel room or padding around a cabin after a day on the slopes.
That quieter part of a trip matters, too. Whether the itinerary calls for an après-ski weekend or simply a cold-weather escape with plenty of downtime, comfort after the day’s activities can be as welcome as the gear worn outside.
