Tofino Resort + Marina hosts Race for the Blue: $25,000 winner-takes-all tuna derby

Tofino’s leader in adventure experiences offers unique opportunities for fishing enthusiasts

September 2018, Tofino Resort + Marina brings the exhilarating tuna fishing experience to Tofino in their inaugural Race for the Blue derby. Taking place on September 7-15, 2018, the tournament’s $25,000 grand prize will draw the excitement of anglers from across the country.

Participants will experience the excitement of the blue water and Pacific albacore tuna fishing while supporting a sustainable fishery in B.C.’s rarely-visited offshore paradise. After settling into rooms at Tofino Resort + Marina, this seven day tournament will see competitors racing 42-65 miles offshore, to the far west of Vancouver Island. Evenings will be filled with great food and wine at signature waterfront restaurant 1909 Kitchen including a “Cook Your Catch” dinner prepared by Chef Paul Moran, and entertainment in The Hatch Waterfront Pub including a brewery tour. On the final day, the wrap up party will feature live music and announcement of the tournament winner (based on a four fish aggregate score), returning home with a $25,000 prize. Entry packages available from $1,500.

Later in the month on September 21-23, Tofino Resort + Marina will welcome the return of Fish for the Future, a catch and release salmon derby. In partnership with the Tla-O-Qui-Aht First Nations the tournament raises much needed funds and awareness for the Clayoquot Watershed, as the Tofino Hatchery and The Salmon Roundtable. Entry fee is $200 per rod and prizes for largest fish are awarded in three angler categories: male, female, junior up to age of 12.
