Today Fairmont Chateau Whistler announced the opening of a luxurious 96-room Fairmont Gold with private concierge, exclusive lounge with culinary offerings, and spacious renovated guestrooms.
The design takes inspiration from the surroundings. An eye-catching light fixture in the lounge reflects ski poles and snowfall, the majestic stone fireplace was created by local craftsmen who hand selected stones and used an age-old tradition masonry technique of balancing rocks against each other, repurposed timber from pine beetle kill is featured in furniture and art, and vintage photographs reflect the history of skiing in the area. Mother Nature provides the palette with warm browns and golds, steely blues and soft grays that thread through the furniture, wood, and carpet.
The expansive lounge provides Fairmont Gold guests with an extravaganza of culinary delights created by award winning Executive Chef Isabel Chung for breakfast, afternoon tea and après canapes. The selection reflects seasonal offerings and Chef works with local growers to provide the best of the area on her table. Covid-compliant, items are individually plated and served, specialty coffee is a press of a button with the Nespresso machine, and filtered still or sparkling water from nearby Rainbow Glacier is on tap. In keeping with the hotel’s environmental initiatives Fairmont Gold is plastic free.
The beverage team has created two signature drinks – a Gold Lounge martini and an exclusive barrel-aged French Canadian old fashioned with copper coupes as the ultimate for temperature control. A local distiller, Montis, has crafted a private chocolate blend liquor for the hotel, and a variety of house made sirops provide endless flavour options. The Coravin preservation system provides extensive wine options, and guests can purchase and tag a bottle of wine to enjoy during their stay. A three-tiered spirit program offers a variety of premium brands to special top-of-the-line like Louis XIII cognac, and over 15 local, craft and international gins are available.
Guests can enjoy their selections at the family-style table, window side banquette intimate private table or in overstuffed leather couches. Natural light and sweeping views of the mountains and ski hill flood through a wall of windows and an outdoor balcony with hand-hewn timber table looks into the forest at eagle nest heights.
Spacious guestrooms also reflect the sense of place with extensive use of natural wood finishes, stone, leather and woven fabrics. All rooms have a hardwood floor entrance, gas fireplace and soaker tub. Snow reports aren’t required with expansive windows that allow the natural light – and forecast – to be revealed. A variety of accommodation is available from a king bedded guestroom to one- and two-bedroom suites that offer double sided fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, walk-in closets, powder room and adjoining rooms. The rooms were designed with style and comfort for a laid-back lifestyle with soothing blues, greens and beiges, beautiful finishing, and rustic touches.
Exclusive to Fairmont Gold guests is an in-room sensory aromatherapy spa experience with SkinJay, an all-natural essential oil pod diffused through the showerhead. Scents from a shower menu offers sleep, a blend of neroli, green tangerine and ylang-ylang, detox with carrot, rosemary, verbenone and juniper, play with lime, cinnamon and patchouli or party with peppermint, sweet lime and davana. Made in France, the capsules are completely recyclable and Fairmont Chateau Whistler is only one of three hotels in North America to offer it.
In order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of guests and employees, the hotel is operating with an abundance of caution and working closely with health authorities to ensure that the hotel remains a healthy and safe place for all who visit.
